It’s grim up there 😀 Little charity event full of aeroplanes – much better!
I’ll be there, weather and new girlfriend permitting 🙂
I’m with Dave Homewood on the Reno racers.
One thing I’ve always struggled with is that most people seem to think that once a plane has finnished its military service its life is over. It must never be aloud to develop or change, it cant ware any colour scheme other than one its already had and you cant change any of its equipment. I think aircraft like Jonathen Whalleys Hunter ‘ Miss Demeanour ‘ and the old G-FIRE etc are excellent. Why close the book on an aircrafts history – lets make some more!
Oh dear I think I can feel this about to go of thread 🙁
Had to say it though.
If we cast aside any sense of reality 😮 then the TSR2 would be my option, then a Javelin, then a Swift, then a ………..
The list of classic jets goes on. I envy you prop job fans as most of your aircraft could be restored to flight if the conditions are right, us jet boys get a certain number of years and then thats it everything grounded. Thankfully the Hunters 🙂 and Vampires 🙂 should keep going for a bit 😀
I was going to go for the first time this year. Having read the comments on this thread I decided not to go – just as well from whats been said.
Funny you should mention Jodels. I often ask myself the question, if I can get over my fear of flying and get a licence what would I do? I’ve always had a passion for Chippies but are they really worth the extra money? If you owned a Chipmunk then yes you would get noticed arriving at places but would the whole flying experiance be so good? A Jodel would offer side by side seating so you could communicate more freely with your passenger. You could modify or replace parts ( like tailwheels ) without an outcry from enthusiasts and I should imagine parts are alot easier to come by ( no – its a vintage plan so add a bit on top prices ). The difference in price also means you have more chance of owning it yourself so its more freely available. When I weigh up the pro’s and con’s I always seem to come out on the side of the Jodel, but at the back of my mind there is always that nagging voice saying…..it ain’t a Chipmunk!
As for the Cub, I remember seeing one at Duxford a few years ago take of ACROSS the grass runway – stole the show 😀
Well done Steve 🙂 Is it time to start thinking about that Chipmunk know?
Does Tony still own this aircraft?
Ah, but Setter – what would you take back to aussie!
Cheers 🙂
Hello Setter,
I have no problem with the aircraft going all around the world as they are the property of whoever owns them. I was just curious as to what people would prefer to see, i.e if you had been in the postion would you have done the deed! I miss the Meatbox alot and I dont see a great difference between the many Spitfires on the scene and a Seafire – although I’m not an expert on either. As has been pointed out it may not have been the case that both are connected but it’s a purely hypothetical question.
Sorry to hear that Steve. It always appears to me that women have this idealistic view of a gangster with morals in there minds as the ideal partner. They don’t exist. Hence most of the girls I know drift from relationship to relationship. I blame TV. If I had a pound for everytime I’ve had the ” I think you’re great but you’re just to nice ” line I think I would have my own Chipmunk or classic jet by know. I’ve got a date tommorow night but at the back of mind I’m thinking were’s this gunna go. The worse you treat girls the more they seem to like you. I’ve been out with a few who I’ve only really wanted for one night, so you’re nasty to them hoping they will go away, the problem is the nastier you are to them the more they want you – it just doesn’t make sense. We could start a list of all the other annoying habbits like when you ask them if they want something they say no and then steal yours 😡 but best not.
I wish you all the best.
And RAF Lakenheath this year.
I see from the Vampire Preservation Society website that they are to feature in a new series of programmes on classic jets for the Discovery Channel – coincidence?
