Only in the States…….:D
Here’s a question – has it been done in good old Blighty? If not, why not?
It was done in rural Lincolnshire with Lightning F3 XP706 back in 1988. 🙂
WJ874 had a check on Sunday and all systems appear to be ok, including engine gearbox oil etc. I don’t know of any plans for the aircraft at present.
Hello Brian, unfortunately if we had opened the hangers a bit all you would have seen was the nose of Dove G-ARHW at a range of about 3 feet! 😀 In the past people have unfortunately tended to ignore ‘bits of rope’ but having said that I will repeat that Sundays photographers were impeccably behaved. The hangers are an issue which we will work hard on to rectify for a future event. I believe this is also the first event were no access has been possible at all. One other consideration was the fact that the engineers were working inside until 1800 (yes even on a Sunday!) and they wouldn’t have appreciated getting so cold!! :D:)
Thankyou Rich. We try our best!
Can I also thank all the photographers who were impeccably behaved, the best I’ve ever known.
Under normal circumstances we would have more than welcomed everyone to have a look around the hangers, unfortunately the public end of hanger 7 is currently full of lots of aircraft in a heavily dismantled state and it was just not really safe for us to let people in. The other advantage of having all these aircraft outside is of course that the other end of the hanger was virtually empty so in future if its possible we will try and position some of the aircraft that are perhaps ‘less exciting outside at night’ in such a way that you can get good open shots of them lit by the hanger lights. 🙂
I think thats a good point Anthony. The original idea was to put G-ANAF next to her but we broke the tug while positioning her and then decided that there really wasn’t enough space for the old girl. Perhaps we could put her side on? One of the other things to consider is that the 2 white lines behind the aircraft are the active taxiway markings and the aircraft needs to be within them, hence why it was so close to the building. I will raise your point on our internal forum 🙂
Great photo’s Brian, glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
This was a first for us and we are open to suggestions and comments in order that we can make any future events even better.
My favourite photo is this one from you’re site : HERE
Hello Anthony, glad you enjoyed it and great photo’s. This was a first for us and seemed to go down well. All comments and suggestions would be welcome so we can learn and try and incorporate them into a future event. 🙂
I ‘think’ I know what Tony is getting at! It may well be easier for the new company to justify the fund raising, however unless something has happened since I last discussed it in the office she’ll still need a re-spar.
I wish the team the best of luck. It’s going to take a lot of work and a lot of money but I hope they achieve there aims especially as we enter this time of financial uncertainty. My understanding of a few of the points raised in this thread are that firstly Air Atlantique hold the design authourity for the aircraft, there is certainly a Shackelton Design Office at Coventry. There is a large spares holding available for the aircraft. The main spar will need to be replaced in order for the aircraft to recieve certification from the CAA to fly, the same as WL790 would have needed and the same reason why she was not allowed to be ferried back to this country.
Indeed chaps I agree about putting Zombie Thread in the title no problem, it was just the other comments seemed a bit unnecessary. It’s good to see that the title has now been amended. 🙂
Slightly confused by the comment in brackets? If I start a new thread then someone will say ‘why not use the search engine and use the old thread’ and then when you do you get that comment. Thankfully I’m not so severe on the forums I run…….
I’m not meaning to have a real dig as I know how hard it is to moderate and run forums, just the comment seems OTT!
Just noticed that these have been posted on youtube

Enjoy! 😎
Were these the aircraft that used to be at 1 s of TT ,RAF halton? I have a course photo circa 1986 taken in front of these jets- not sure if that’ll help though!!!
According to Wrecks & Relics 13th Edition, XN699 and XP921 were ex-Halton.
According to Wrecks & Relics 14th Edition the last 3 were XJ608 / XN699 / XP921 and they were scrapped around 1992.
