Nice connection.
In an earlier news article the aircraft were run up on a regular basis but due to fuel leaks here there and every where that idea was stoped.
How may of the enginges could run now without a major overhaul.
The aircraft would need a great deal of money spent to get them back into the air which is a great pitty I had a good look at them back in November and it is sad to see them just to be polite decaying.
Some of the problem the aircraftare so exposed which does not help in this part of the country side let alon England>
I see on the display list for Jerseys Liberation day the Spitfire and the Hurricane are down to go to Jersey.
With that distance over water would they not have an escort?.
Most of the time it would be the Lancaster but that is not down to come to Jersey, the Dakota would be to slow i would have at a guess?
Rare Bear
We must not for get the Viscount is British, should I say any thing more?
Well the only reason why some of this has come to light is i am reading the Dakota book and I have just come across this bit in the possibilty of the museum having a Dak to them selves.
I know the book had been delayed for a number of reasons and some of this story could be to do with this.
As for the hangars when we were there in November we found out some were being knock down and it was just a thought that there could be some connection to give space to someone and why not the museum.
I know you dont get dsomething for nothing these days but if you dont ask you dont get.
A commuter is a good start but at the end of the day if the local government dont get a return on there funding the plug will be pulled.
One would hope this will not happen and all being well it could lead to more commuter type operations not only out of Taffies Garage but out of Valley and possible a few other Welsh Airfields
We will wait and see lets hope it takes off, excuse the punn what I mean shows a strong return with in a year or so and if so it could grow.
Well it is a good promotion for red nose day but who out side the U.K know what it is all about.
As quoted it costs a lot to repaint an aircraft of that size that money or part could go toward the charity.
On another note aircraft do need to be looked after and pend what they do to help things like red nos you might find they are stickers ontop of a new paint job.
Only the experts could tell us we have a number of executive jets transit or field and they come in with one registration and go out as another and you cant tell there is any differance in the paint as they are stickers.
When you look at Gatwicks location draw a radious of one hundered miles from Gatwick and see what airport are available there are many.
For the bigger aircraft Manston could be one it does not matter if it takes time to unload the passengers they are on the ground not going round if they could for hours.
Bournemouth is another good diversion the old north south runway to park on.
It all depends where the aircraft are at the time of airport closure on where the could go to some whould be on route so divert to an airfield where they have handling to wait with aircraft in the hold is a differant matter and it could come down to ops on where they would like if possible to go.
So until it happens it cannot be fully answered and the time of day plays a big part in all of this as well.
DAK promoter.
As they say in the old days bring back the DAK, now is the time to add bring back the Six and it is not a six pack but big brother to the DAK.
Good luck to the new project look forward to the 2007 season.
What a sight and sound
Some of the group have changed and there was the possibility that the aircraft might have to be sold to the one and only America if they could not find some more interest and backing.
The group members left I understand have found some new members, some of the problem is pilots as not many rated on the Heron and to get type rated costs money so it is not cheap to keep pilots in check.
All being well if all goes well on the check she will come out looking like a little lady and attract some new recruits.
What a sight a Coventry in a month or so,s time could it happen? a line up of the following with all engines running
The Heron
The Lancaster
The Shackelton
The Viscount
For good measure although not a British aircraft a Douglas DC6
Could really rock the area with all those magic sounds in harmany.
I can almost picture the scence and the sounds now.
Well done and congratullations to all for doing such a great job and another British built airliner live on
Hopefully for a very long time.
Hope some of those bits find a good home.
It will all be over soon, the summer is comming for some of us, a lot quicker than up north.
Flying Concorde
There was a nesw article not that long ago on one of the French Concordes and it might have been if Flight Magazine.
They have one in a hangar I don,t know if it is at Orly or Charles du Gaulle they keep all the systems going and the aircraft is checked regulerally.
I don,t no if the enginges are run but the rest as far as I am aware is kept going and the have a deadacated team of engineers looking after it.
This is one in the eye for British Aviation but if the petition that is around at the moment people are signing to try to get one in the air it all depends on us to go out and sign
Long live Speedbird Concorde 001?
Nice to see the engines in place when will they fire them up and upset the neighbours
Only kiding well done to all.
Donations to the project
As soon as the Viscount 35 Web sight is up and running would it not be nice every time there was a comment towards the project a donation was mad to the project?
Well it is a thought.:)
