It was on a non aviation forum (the original picture), and posted in good faith. The Concorde one was posted
by someone taking the mickey.

The Kiwi’s captaincy was certainly very good. McCullum had done is homework on the England team.

However, Sally B DID overfly Grafton Underwood during May as part of the service held there for the 384th BG. And there are people with genuine photos of the event too………

Apart from the rather obvious photo shopping. Maybe it is genuine and someone has tried to make it look realistic
to the period. The image of Sally-B just doesn’t look right. Compared to the quality of the cottage images.

Also, as someone pointed out. When the video from the airfield was taken, the sky was heavily overcast.
Very few blue bits.

Thanks for that. Looking more closely you can see some of the clumsy photo shopping. The lamp above the Telephone kiosk
for example.
It was posted as being a 70th anniversary flypast, from when Clark Gable was there. (I haven’t checked that yet)

From memory, something like 65 fatalities in RAF Fighter Command 11 Group during the period 26 May to 3 June alone. And that doesn’t include those shot down and wounded and a large number shot down and POW.

Sadly, the myth that the RAF were ‘not there’ at Dunkirk endures in some quarters. Nothing could be further from the truth, of course.

Just to add: I read elsewhere that the RAF lost 177 aircraft over Dunkirk, including 106 fighters.
I don’t know how accurate those figures are. Maybe they include losses from a wider area in France ?

I remember listening to Dunkirk veterans talking many years ago, on how they said they never saw the RAF over the beaches.
Does anyone have figures to say how many aircrew were lost over Dunkirk at that time ?
