Most of the aircraft are well photographed so thought I’d post a few possibly less documented items –

The Comet sports a set of Dunlop retreads (is that normal for an airliner?)

There are others with far more knowledge of this than me, but I believe there was a time when it was not unusual for commercial aircraft to use retreads or remoulds.

Last time I saw one flying was at Southend in about 1968 when it hovered in a strong breeze over the railway line. I think the pilot’s name was Marmol?

He was quite a character by all accounts. There are some stories to be told about him flying his Turbo Porter.

The difference perhaps being, there are those who work there in security who have little or no interest in what
they are “guarding”. As well as those who love what they are doing. It just depends on who you come up against.

I remember some years ago, taking a picture of a Jet provost at Cosford. Chap there said, “both of you get in the cockpit
and I’ll take a picture of you”. That is good PR.

I did find a couple of people at Hendon rather officious when telling us to vacate the BoB hall, as the video was about to start.

Not a new idea, just an old concept brought up to date.

Which will never happen (not in this country anyway)

Congratulations to all involved, this is great news. It’s always nice to see a historic aircraft get a proper roof over it’s head, especially when there’s the prospect of it being airworthy again when it’s rolled back out.

That would indeed be lovely to see, especially for our Canadian cousins who have never seen two Lancasters flying together.

As has already been suggested.
They just need to do what many other places do. Put a sign up saying that nobody is admitted 30mins before closing time.
From that time the entrance is closed. No big deal, and no room for any arguments from those who think they are a special case.

If you are racing against time to get there for a special reason, phone and ask if they’ll let you in.

I would imagine that the majority of the staff have homes to go to ?

Mmmmm, always that element of doubt 🙂

I thought that the engine might have been removed to reduce the weight.

Are there any plans for the plastic one ? It could be been mounted near the gate, along with the Hurricane.
