Both gliders flown by Graham Saw, Cosmic Wind by Pete Kinsey….all this aerial wonderfulness AND the Napier Railton burbled up and down the flight line. Another magic day, if a tad chilly by the end!

We left at about 4:40, what time did it finish ? I hope we didn’t miss too much.
Not having been for a long time, I didn’t know what the traffic would be like getting out.

I’m hopeless at remembering names, but I really liked the displays by both gliders. Lovely flying.
The noisiest thing being all of the camera shutters going off 🙂

Also the little Cosmic Wind, an impressive display indeed.

    To name but three.

What an excellent day it was. Helped by nigh on perfect weather.
It’s certainly changed a bit (well a lot actually) since I was last there.
We got there at just after 10am, and left a little early at about 4:40pm.
I hope we didn’t miss too much, but I didn’t want to be late home.

It’s nice to be closer to the aircraft when they display. I sometimes think at
Duxford that you need a pair of binoculars to see anything, as the aircraft
are so high and a long way away.

Shall have to go back another time for a more relaxed look around, and when
the Swiss garden is in bloom.

Maybe from the lessons learnt during the Battle of Britain, that it is very difficult to put an airfield out of action ?
He probably thought it a pointless exercise, and a waste of resources ?

Fair enough – I mistakenly had the impression you went a few times a year and after three visits you are in pocket regardless of the other perks and discounts.

Just looked into it and you are right (smart **** 🙂 )

Going three times a year on the Fridays before airshows, has cost us £84 this year. (£14 each x 3 )
A joint concession with Friends of Duxford would have cost £73, a saving of £11.

Might look into it next year.

I look forward to this one. I just hope they show the work that went into the restoration,
and don’t just pack out the programme with lots of archive film.

Anyone had any luck with booking tickets online ?
I filled the form in, then it told me it didn’t like the format of my email address 🙁
So I put a different one in, and it continually times out.

Could just be system overload ?, I’ll try again later.

    update
Now done. Seems it didn’t like my Plusnet email.
Worked fine with a Yahoo address.

I suppose the argument would be by how much, in reality, would the odds be increased. Might it be worth your while becoming an FoD?

We don’t go enough to justify the expense.

Weather permitting I will be there. Any Old Warden show is well worth a visit but the air race theme and the chance to see the F1/Goodyear racers together again are the icing on the cake.
Old Warden is generally quite genteel. Busy usually means a smallish queue at the gate and it rarely takes very long to get in. I usually try to arrive around 10pm which gives plenty of time for a walk round and a vsit to the Swiss Garden for my other half before buying lunch in the cafe around 12 to avoid the queues as it gets busy in there a bit later. The queues when the cafe is busy are the only downside to an Old Warden visit. Even after the alterations a few years ago they have restricted space so there isn’t much they can do to improve the situation. The popularity of the cafe means they must have got something right.
If you haven’t been for a long time you will find many changes but the place still has the same atmosphere it has always had ever since I first visited about 30 years ago.

Weather forecast looks good. We’ll plan on 10am then. Are there usually other food concessions there ?, as it will save taking food with us, and the Cafe could be busy. Yes, my other half likes gardens too. 🙂

I agree that it’s always going to be pot luck, but it would be nice to be able to increase the odds of seeing something flying.
Especially for those of us living some distance away, and who have to pay to get in.

I doubt we will be going again this year though.

Regarding the Blenheim and other aircraft.

i know a lot depends on serviceability, weather, availability of pilots etc, but wouldn’t it be nice if there was a
daily list of aircraft likely to fly that day, or the next. Posted on the Duxford website.

I think I shall make my go/no go decision, early Saturday. So I still have time to get tickets online.
It must be over 35yrs since I’ve been there, so one or two things may have changed ? 🙂

Does it tend to get very busy there ?

Although there is an exercise starting next week.

Also a US Navy P-8A Poseidon by the looks of it ? In unitl 16th for Joint Warrior Exercise starts 6th
    Two USAF C-17s as well.

C-17 could also be in for that. Nice if they could kill two birds with one stone though.
It might save CWH some money.
