Hi All,
Departing from the safe flight home topic I found this video courtesy of Tim Dunlop via the FM104 Facebook page, I have scoured through all the post since the 19/9 and could not find it but in case I have repeated this video my apologies. :eagerness:

The thing I find interesting in that video, is how hard the pilot has to work to keep in formation.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me, and I’m sure there’s an airfield (with a long enough runway) somewhere in the
UK that would be more than happy to host a visit.
Although a 5,000ft minimum might rule out a few appearances on the ground ?

I don’t think that anyone is suggesting that IF fi-fi came to the UK, she would have to operate from Duxford.
It would probably make sense though, as I would envisage some formations involving Sally-B, B-25 and Mustangs etc.

I wonder if the engines on the Duxford B-29 would still fire up ?

It’s good to speculate 🙂

£9million sounds about right for now.

It has always been said that the Red Arrows were a valuable recruiting aid. Given the size of the RAF now, I wonder if that is still the case ?

I knew the RAF had some B-29s (Washingtons) after the war, but didn’t realize how many. Seventy it seems.
With a small number at Watton, where my dad lives.

It was a documentary for The World About Us. It was first shown in 1981 and entitled Colonel Culpepper’s Flying Circus. I videoed a repeat around 1988 and still have a ropey, copied-to-DVD version somewhere, but I can’t find it online – there was a link here but it’s gone dead.

That’s the one. I used to have it on video too 🙂

It also had Adolf Galland meeting Stanford Tuck at the CAF. I don’t remember Paul Tibbets flying Fi-Fi, but he was sitting
in the cockpit talking to Ian Wooldridge. Saying that he never lost a moments sleep over what they did, and given the
same set of circumstances, he would do it again.

I still remember the Ian Wooldrige documentary on the (then) Confederate Airforce. Mentioning the one and only time they
re-enacted dropping the bomb on Hiroshima. Apparently after they did it, all hell was let loose.

Hasn’t this story been doing the rounds for some time now? Mind you if it did come to pass I’d be at least as excited as for the last few weeks events of not more so. There’s only one B29!! Think of the logistics at Duxford for that day!!!!!

As well as all of the moans afterwards 🙂

Nice picture.

She’s safely on the ground in Iceland now. Although she had to fly a long holding pattern first.

She’s made good time, off the coast of Iceland now.

Although I don’t think the information given is totally accurate ?

It still says she is flying from Bournemouth to Bournemouth 🙂

Wow !, I wonder how active a plan that might be ?

Especially as they have now seen what the Canadians have achieved.
