My dad was telling me that during WWII, their fitters could do an engine change in under a day.
Although to be fair, that was in a wartime situation and swapping like for like.

Of course swapping the engines over would be the best option, as that would save money in
shipping engines each way over the Atlantic at a later date.

I hope they get a good send off ?, they certainly deserve it.

Wasn’t that a short lived modification, to counteract the German night fighters, which were fitted with the vertically mounted canon ?

I have heard, and I’d be grateful if someone could confirm if true or not, that they have had to pay rental to MoD for the use of the BBMF’s spare engine. If true, I think UK government should be asked to write this off. That would go some way to helping them out financially.

I sincerely hope they haven’t been charged for it’s use. I also hope they manage to get their engine repaired and
fitted before they go home.
Otherwise the shipping costs of the Merlins might be rather expensive, with one going each way.

A coat of Unibond on the concrete will seal it, although they will no doubt go for a more expensive solution.
I also noted that on Friday when were were in the AAM, it was very hot. This was at around 10:30am.
It must have got hotter during the course of the day. A distinct lack of ventilation.

…………..Great show really enjoyed it my only gripe was not the display but the state of the museums aircraft. Haven’t they heard of dusting or cleaning at Duxford, i’ve never seen indoor aircraft so dirty !! You go to Cosford and their exhibits are kept clean, come on Duxford pull your finger out !!!!

Not an easy task in hangars where aircraft are being worked on.

Although my wife and I made this comment when looking around the American hangar on Friday.
A number of the aircraft looked decidedly dusty.
I should say that this was an observation, and not a criticism.
It must be one helluva job keeping these aircraft clean, especially those hanging on wires.
Not a job I would like to undertake.

I bought another two today, and a fridge magnet :). Made another donation towards the engine fund.
