Put like that I suppose you are right. Back then though, we were both working full time, so costs were not such an issue.
Now my other half has retired, and I am semi retired, we tend to take more notice of where the money goes.

I hope as much as possible goes to maintaining the museum.

As well as paying staff no doubt ? There must be days during the winter where visitors fees don’t cover costs.

I realize that everywhere is expensive now. Earlier this year we considered going to Colchester zoo one Sunday. The last time I went there, was when the Netherlands were playing Argentina in the world cup final !!
Entrance there is about the same as Duxford. So we gave it a miss.

While I don’t consider it cheap it’s the going rate for an event and when you consider the upkeep of the aircraft I would say pretty good value.

When you say upkeep of the aircraft, do you mean the preservation of museum exhibits ? As I assume all of the flying aircraft are privately owned ?

I wonder, did the museum have a similar choice to the major museums in London. In that they either levied an admission charge, or made entrance free and received public funding ?

I know that earlier this year they had a deal going with English Heritage, whereby if you were an EH member, admission was two for the price of one. EH membership isn’t exactly cheap though.

Remind me, how much is admission to Cosford, Hendon and the IWM ?

It’s a shame that whenever they put any sort of event on (even non-flying), they have to increase the entrance price.

Alan, I used to go to Peterborough Speedway, a chap named Vic Duggan, was the local hero in those days, Ever see him race, as he travelled to different meets all over the Country?.
As for that smell, once inhaled, never forgotten!!
