The truth will probably not come out unless there is clear, substantiated witness to the alleged offences. Anything else is one living person’s testimony against one dead person’s testimony. I.e. case not proven. All of those who knew and did nothing bear equal responsibility and guilt, if the alleged offences are proven.

I think it’s now safe to say, that all doubt has been removed.

Could it be that the Alpha Jet was escorted (if indeed it was), as it didn’t have VHF radio, only UHF ? I may be wrong, but just a thought.

I remember many years ago, an RAF Jaguar escorting a Fiat-G91 into North
    Weald for this reason.

    A remarkable story indeed.

Nice pictures Rob, not something I’ve ever tried.

For non-LLA (Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association :diablo:) members the following link provides a bit of information about what is being planned for the anniversary next year http://www.lancaster-association.co.uk/NewsArticle.aspx?newsid=79 😉

“…the unveiling of a new memorial in Woodhall Spa to 617 Squadron by the Squadron’s Association….”

Is this in addition to the one I thought was already there ? Or am I confusing it with a nearby memorial ?

    It’s a while since I was there.

And not a fluorescent jacket in sight! Very refreshing.

Indeed, and some of those explosions looked very close 😮

Can’t help with the engine I’m afraid, but I understand that the Jumo is/was displayed at the Southend Central Museum (more or less next door to Southend Victoria Station)

    I assume it’s still there, I haven’t been for a while.

I hope to go this Saturday, as the museum is putting on an exhibition about
astronomy, science fiction and space inspired art.

I can tell you where to find vast amounts of fired .303 bullets:

Beach on the N.E. corner of Whale Island/HMS Excellent in Pompey. No idea why they are there, but when I was a kid & my dad was a CPO Gunnery Instructor there I used to pick up HUNDREDS of them on a Saturday/Sunday morning. Place is probably still littered with them.

Other beaches on the island may also be littered with them, but I never checked elsewhere because it would have taken me months of weekends to pick up just the ones on that corner.

Access may be a bit tricky owing to the place apparently now being populated by RM’s…

I can just about remember going on to the cliff tops in South Wales (near Castle Martin) and picking up canon shell cases, where they used to straff the old tanks. The ones they told people not to pick up 🙂
That must have been over 45yrs ago 😮

Maybe as it was on early evening, but there were a few bits edited out.

    Nice photographs.

    I’m a little confused though (it doesn’t take much 🙂 )

Who do these planes belong to ?, as they still have Canadian registrations.

I first saw the film in 1969 with my ATC sdn (460) at the Dominion in London.
    Dave

That’s where I first saw it. Went with my (then) girlfriend and her family.

I also remember seeing some of the aircraft flying around, on our way up
do do some flying at Marshalls. (Rayleigh ATC 1476) .
Then shortly afterwards, going to a wing parade at Debden. To be greeted
by the sight of a field full of aircraft from the film, all neatly lined up.

Nobody had a camera with them 🙁

I was working close to Southend Airport when a Heinkel 111, Spitfire, and
    B-25 came in to re-fuel.

I use a Canon Powershot A1200 Jim. I think I might have been better off shooting in video mode, then grabbing a frame ?

    I’ll know the next time.
