The surprising thing I find about this whole “Savile” episode, is how many people are jumping to his defence. Although to be fair, he was one of the few people who came to the defence of Gary Glitter. Maybe as they can only remember this “father like” figure on Jim’ll fix it, and that’s how they want to remember him ?
As Esther Rantzen said, he was an icon, he did so much charity work. When doubts were raised on numerous occasions about some of his dubious activities, he threatened to pull the plug on his charity raising work, if the stories were published.
I’ve seen it suggested that it’s just a couple of women making allegations to make some money. I think not.
When you delve into his past, it involves other well known celebrities, and even an ex-prime minister .
Should we just say, the bloke is dead let sleeping dogs lie ? I don’t think so, would people have said that if he’d been a Catholic priest ?
