Lovely pictures. It’s a long time since we went to the Channel Islands.
    Shall have to go again.

I believe we treat UXBs differently in the UK.

Unless they need to be moved we leave them where they are. There are still
dozens in and around London, with their locations documented.

In Germany, once a bomb is located it has to be dealt with. By the UXB
    section of their fire service.

Badgers are a rare sight???!!!! Really?

    You should live round here.

No shortage of them around here either. Often see them by the back door, finishing any food off that the cat and foxes have left.

They seem to be getting urbanised like foxes. Transfer them to the countryside and they would starve to death.

I take it that the bomb exploded while they were working on it (remotely) ?

    Could have been nasty !

As far as I’m concerned, bones should be treated the same whether they’ve been buried for 1,000 years or 5 years.

That’s never going to happen though. We should just be grateful for what
they have achieved so far. I’m sure they meant no disrespect.

    A rough translation:

On Ginkel Heath near Ede today the remains of a British soldier from World War II recovered. The remains were found this weekend with a metal detector. Two hand grenades were found on the debris layers.

The explosives were detonated on the spot, after the remains were removed.

Defense assumes that the soldier belonged to a group of soldiers on September 18, 1944 were dropped over the heath. The British authorities have been informed of the discovery.

The remains will be transferred to a laboratory of the Salvage and Identification Service in Soesterberg. There, they hope
    to identity the soldier.

According to Defense, it is a remarkable find because in less than a week the annual commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem place. On the find location then take hundreds of paratroopers participated in a memorial jump.

This is an interesting website I’ve just come across. The History of Southend.
There is a good section on the Airport, the Airshows and the museum.

    They’ve kept that quiet 🙂

I made a small donation in Southend today, and got my sticker.

I had an interesting chat with the chap doing the collection. He was at RAF Topcliffe, working on ATC. In the days when they had Varsities there.

I think we’ve all met people like this, to a greater or lesser extent.
Maybe they just feel the need to impress people, and to “hold court”
in their circle or friends ?
