Thanks Richard will look into this lead, cheers Darrell
David, about 32 inches high and 23 across, just spoke with owner, he says possible Seafire or Fury? The units for de-icing kind of have me fooled, but we in Canada did have aircraft post war for cold weather testing so may have de-icers? Darrell
Well Tony, besides sleeping off all the food I ate and most of me Boly stuff under the snow, cleaning up my Oxford pilots seat for paint and generally tidying up, cheers Darrell
Its a cover plate Peter
Shame , yes indeed quite a character, quite a legacy he has left us.
So could you say “flying by the seat of their loins” ? or nice “loin”ding or “mooo ve” over before landing? ya I know bad eh.
Well if I had to guess it looks like bomb aimers position in the main spar tub of a Battle.
Fairey Battle??
Thanks Peter, Mike and Phil, got a nice hat from New Zealand something about NX665, couple neat Boly bits and a couple of small Zero artifacts recovered from the Solomons in the 1970s, cheers Darrell
Thanks Jerry, thats amazing possibly only one left?, glad to see the Arab has got as good home, cheers Darrell
Sunbeam Arab out of a Bristol Fighter? belonged to the RSAC collection in Oshawa for 30 years plus, recently sold off, dont know who to.
Yes sad indeed, as Dave C will tell you, Charlie Fox often did the play by play at the Russell Group airshows at Fort Erie, he had many friends in the aviation community and will be missed, he was extremely active and always had time to talk, thank you for what you did for our freedom Charlie, rest in peace.
Well avro the general concensus is they are Seafire, I guess we had a few here, I do know a fella with a couple sets of Seafire legs but have no luck prying any from him. I hope to get back there shortly and have a real good look, I was at the end of the day and lucky I had my camera with me, I am hopeful I can scoop the rims if nothing else I will stick them on a shelf for display, I am of the opinion I have to act on all and any tips I may have just to rule the place out if there is nothing there so I can move on to the next place of interest, and of course my time is limited to look around, but am glad I stopped, cheers Darrell
Thanks Peter, guess I will have to try and go back to get a better looksie, it has to be late, is a big unit, methinks model 66 or up? cheers .
Well they had me a little fooled because I was sure they were not Spit, but looked the part, now I have to figure out what they are doing in a scrapyard not far from me, as I recall we in Canada did not have very many Seafires?? and I guess they may be worth picking up? thanks fellas, Darrell
