First of all make sure the “remember me” feature is selected. Next line of thinking is that you have a duff cookie. Click from the IE menu Tools>Internet Options>Delete Cookies. From there it is conceivable that you have somehow managed to have your browser not accept cookies from this site, in which case it will be worth having a delve into the IE security settings.

Pete, it is not the fault of us or Key that you are having a problem, but more likely a tech issue with your PC doing something unusual in the way it interacts with the vbulletin software Key uses. Not to mention countless other sites.

Have you tried farming whales? There is no difference between farming and hunting, its exactly the same.

I think the Sperm whale was hunted mainly for their oil which was used for fuel in domestic oil-burning lamps…..apparently it doesn’t smoke when it burns.

The ‘plankton filters’ (I forget what they are called) were used as the frames in ‘whalebone’ skirts…

The whole ‘industry’ of whaling is fascinating…..abhorrent, yes…..but still fascinating. I’m very glad it is now all but history, and that no species of whale is extinct…..so far!

There is a pub not far from here with a whalebone arch over the door, just outside of Haverhill, how that ended up on the Suffolk/Essex border is beyond me, I also recall a similar artifact at the Salutation pub in Nottingham, again, what a wierd thing to do in such an inland location.

I can’t agree with that. Just because man has the capacity to destroy every living thing on the planet doesn’t give us the right to.

What I actually meant was that these domestic animals reared today are solely for human consumption…..if man didn’t want to eat them they wouldn’t exist (wool, milk and eggs excepted of course).

Agreed, but my objection to killing whales isn’t based on morals. It is based solely on an utterly hypocritical, illogical and sentimental ‘gut reaction’ to this practice hence the abhorrence!

On moral grounds I’ve always found the argument that many ‘vegetarians’ use to justify eating fish strange. Yes, the fish have led a natural life of freedom up until the point they were caught but does that give us the right to kill them?

At least with domestic animals man has fed them, sheltered them, cured them of disease, protected them from (other) predators and so in exchange for all this, and giving them life in the first place, don’t we have more right to eat them than a wild animal.

I really think that anyone who thinks that killing a whale is no different from killing a chicken needs serious psychiatric help.
We are talking of a mass produced, not too bright, human created and bred food source here, any one with any brain cells can’t compare a chicken to a whale.
Unfortunately conservation has become an issue with many species that have been hunted almost to extinction by human greed and manipulation, look at Rhinos, almost gone because of the ‘aphrodisiac properties’ of it’s horn, that’s just one, the list goes on and on, ooh, symbolic, Mr Rat has just appeared in the garden.
The Japanese claim to kill whales for research, they are mainly going for Minke whales and ‘need’ to kill 1000 to find out how long they live, why?
Why don’t they come clean and admit it’s for their incomprehensible diet, not only that, but how do you fit 1000 whales in one factory ship, and have you seen how they try and kill them.
All whales have been in trouble in the past due to over hunting, they are now in trouble because of ‘Global Warming’.
But please explain to me exactly what foodstuff comes from a whale, blubber, yeah right, must nip to Tescos and buy some, originally it was ambergist, that I believe was used for perfumes, then weren’t Sperm whales plankton filters used for hair brushes, anyone know anymore or be able to tell me what the point of killing them is, apart from wierd Japanese dietary requirements.
I went out on a boat trip along the North Devon coast last summer, porporses were leaping out the water next to us, everyone loved it, and thats what they’d come to see, perhaps we should have taken on board a few shotguns and blown them out of the water, well they are the same as cattle are’nt they Sealord.

Despite the fact that I was living ‘Up North’, away from all the filming and still at school, there was quite a lot of publicity about the making of the film at the time.
I remember the media making a big issue of the arrival of the Buchons, I’m sure a picture was published in the Mirror of them flying over the White Cliffs of Dover.
We were also led to believe that the Whitsuntide 1968 Hucknall Airshow would feature the Buchons and some of the Spifires and Hurricanes from the film, however this never happened, unforunately, I even saved up to buy some colour film for the event.
Eventually we went to the premier at the Odeon in Nottingham, I’m sure we were impressed with the flying, but I don’t recall what we really thought. My memory of the film was when us 6th formers went to the toilet at half time and elected to speak only in German, as you can imagine, we got some very funny looks.
Looking back to those days, who would have imagined being able to watch the film at home from this strange plastic disc, on a woofing great wide screen telly, in colour, and a sound system better than the Odeon could produce, I love it, cr#p script and all.
If DX did really go over the top with a re-enactment of the filming, unlikely, but understandable, what veterans from the film could be easily mustered for the event.
I’m assuming that half the Spits are already based there and that the BBMF would happily make their contribution, then we have the prospect of two DX based Buchons by 2009, but whats around in Europe, I’m asuming that the only ‘Heinkel’ is the ropey example previously mentioned, but what could actually be gathered together, within reason.
I feel, that, given the right publicity, it could well be a profitable event, I think that an effort should be made, but I’m not holding the budget restraints, go on DX, go for it.
