For those of you who are going today, and I know this is late, but I overslept.
The weather down here is almost perfect, the wind has dropped and there are big fluffy clouds amongst the blue, oh, and it’s warm.
The wind is from the west so take offs will be from the Superhanger end.
Due to madams birthday I’m going tomorrow, however she’s been pretty ill all week and I can feel the virus creeping up on me, so keep away from the long haired old git on the tank bank if you don’t want to catch anything nasty.
Hope everyone has an enjoyable time, whatever is or isn’t there, whatever the cost of beer and the state of the burgers etc etc.
The Cat has just come over Bocking very low, turned in front of us and headed over Braintree town centre in the direction of Chelmsford, it was so quiet, no wonder the U-Boats never heard them coming.
A warm up run for Legends perhaps, or acting as an aquatic guide for incoming European warbirds.
Incidentally, we quite often see the SAR yellow Seakings from Wattisham, usually heading on their western track over Braintree College, last evening one flew through a blinding thunderstorm, I didn’t envy him one bit, I gather they have a huge radius of operation, must be tiring having to travel so far, especially in that sort of weather.
I sympathise with you Kev35, but miracles do happen.
My mother and father lived on the same street for 60 years, all the old boys but them, died out and the street was occupied by Muslims, Indians and West Indians. What did the old man do, he made friends with the lot of them, and they loved it. When he died 2 years ago they all turned out for his funeral, it was quite moving.
What was an epic was that my mother had a knock on the door one day and there was Mr Bling Hardman West Indian, ‘Here’s my phone number, if anyone knocks on your door and gives you grief, phone me up and I’ll come straight over and sort them out’, with friends like that, well…….
They have it sorted in my in-laws country of origin, Hungary.
If you are not Hungarian, white and a Christian, you are NOT appreciated.
When I first went over 10 years ago, the only accepted outsiders were German, Brits were an unknown article.
We went to Hungary’s top restaurant, it was full of Germans, we were treated with suspicion and the manager was convinced we could’nt afford to pay. Quite frankly, at the exchange rate of the time, we probably could have afforded to buy the place, the meal was about the price of a Pub meal at the Red Lion in Finchingfield, only, 5 courses, free wine and the countries top violin band.
Perhaps we should all move out there, I quite fancy it myself, they know how to enjoy themselves, the only dissent comes from within.

Lets not let these evil b*stards panic us, They are a small minority of very twisted people intent to scare us change what we do in our day to day lives and live in fear, If we live in fear they are in control, If we carry on with our lives they will lose.
To use a union style quote “Britain united can never be divided” ,Lets not let a small minority beat the 99.99% of our fine and multi-cultured land.
Personally speaking, I lived with the IRA threat during the 70’s, having to put up with searches during a night out on the town was a pain, but we put up with it, it didn’t affect us, what happened was that alot of my friends were Catholic or Irish, who didn’t give a monkeys about the politics, but it seemed to affect them more than it did us, and that was so sad.
We have very few Muslims in Braintree, there is a family I see about the town occassionally but again, they are the ones that suffer, you can see the looks from people when they pass by, I’m sure they are probably lovely people that just want to get on with their lives, these scumbags aren’t doing them any favours, perhaps they should go and spend some time with the Taleban and watch them shoot little school kids, female of course, or perhaps these perverts would enjoy that.

Just had a look, It looks the business to me, I’m going to the shed to dig out the windbreak, stepladder and collapsible chairs, should have that lot set up on the flightline by 8:00 on the day. I could take the garden umbrella too, now that would be a first, or would it…….
Intrigued by the mention of the FW-190.
Nothing to do with the country being on a critical terrorist alert???
Good point, on the other hand, how many ethnic ‘minorities’ have you ever seen at an airshow, it always seems to be the enclave of white enthusiasts, it wouldn’t take much working out on the gate as people arrive.
On the other hand, the weather down here at the moment is beyond belief, I won’t even venture down to the garden shed.
What a great summer we are having, pity there were’nt more events in April when it was decent. As Terry Wogan would say, the nights are drawing in and were’d better put the sprouts on for Christmas.
I’m even having to do the barbie under cover, sorry for those who will inevitably turn up at Waddo, I’ve been on the phone to up north all morning trying to pass on the news, but I bet it’s chaos up there, very sad for all involved.
Just one consolation, the weather is messing up my least favourite event of the year, namely Wimbledon, magic.
Are we not treading Long Marston ground here, yes, the pictures are taken ‘In the best possible taste’, but is it all taken with permission, the blanked out faces on some of his other sites suggest not.
Personally, I’d like to see more of the girl with the long hair.
B##### me, I was only asking, it’s not the Spanish Inquisition you know, have a nice day.
Mostly, but not always, Harvard and BT-13 conversions. In some scenes you can see that some of the “Japanese” aircraft are simply painted Harvards – but you have to look closely to spot them! 😉
Even in their natural state, Harvards scrub up quite well as representing Japanese aircraft to the uninitiated.
It’s when they used them as Typhoons/Tempests in ‘A Bridge Too Far’ as well as ‘Das Boot’, that they stretch the imagination rather a long way, I could never work out why they did that, considering the availability of Sea Furies at the time, radial engines I know, but at least the shape and power was all there.
Just to be safe, I checked on IMDB, but couldn’t get much info, but how about the truly awe inspiringly dreadful film ‘Revolution’. This was all about how Al Pacino single handedly defeated the British in 1776, it surely falls into the same category as ‘Braveheart’.
It was filmed over here, and I believe, financed by Lew Grades film company, presumably the reason they went down the tubes. There you go, a British film showing our colonial demise at the hands of the Americans, and quite right too!!!
Incidentally, the ship dressings at Kings Lynn’s Custom Quay, were abandoned by the film company and left to rot. What a right mess it was when I went up there and saw the rotting hulks. I gather it took a fair bit of dosh to tidy the place up, after they chucked out ‘Mr Tidy’ in his narrow boat, where is he now?
Back to Tora Tora Tora, what must it have been like for some of the older members of the local population to have witnessed these scenes being re-enacted during the making of the film, it must have been very upsetting for some, were any comments made at the time.
My missus has always fancied going to Glastonbury, having been to such events in the 70’s, I’ve tried to put her off, because it may look fun on the TV, but when you are actually there, it’s grim, and watching wall to wall coverage on the digi box last weekend, she’s had to concede to the awful truth that it’s better to sit at home and watch it from the comfort of your living room.
Thats by the by, our impressions on the event, and we watched a lot of it, were that most of the featured bands were crap, and this was a view shared by our 2 youths aged 13 and 21, they should know.
Why so much publicity and coverage was devoted to that useless, pathetic little s###, Mika was beyond me, is he paying someone.
We were looking forward to Amy Winehouse, wow, her band were brilliant, but she was obviously out of her head, get a life Amy and watch how a real proffesional called Shirley Bassey knows how to deliver.
As far as the contemporary bands were concerned, Kasabian were cool, Kaiser Chiefs just went through the motions, but were pretty good, but the stars of the show for me were the Arctic Monkeys, a band that I didn’t particularly like before, but I really thought that they did a really good set, and had real charisma on stage.
Can someone please tell me why they bother paying that heroin fuelled git with Babyshambles and his similarly charged up famous model girlfriend to attempt to perform anything, they could have done better cleaning the toilets, though they probably would have fallen in, and no doubt enjoyed the experience.
As for the old boys, Shirl was brilliant, I liked John Fogerty, despite his dyed ginger mop, Iggy was hilarious, but I found the Who a bit predictable, I never liked Tommy anyway.
Very dissapointing this year, hopefully Radiohead will come up with something for next year, now their’s was a set never to be forgotten, it still sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it.
