Re the the F-14 Tomcat, if it had been offer to Yeovilton FAAM, it would have been nice for the enthustiast, the general public would not give a dame, and like the previousely donated F-4J Phantom would have been negeleted and quietly disposed of.
Interesting you mention that F-4, I always thought that Black Mike would make a much more relevant exhibit at East Fortune than the US Phantom.
All of KB976’s wings are with Kermit. He also has the fuselage of KB976 with the damaged rear fuselage section replaced by that of KB994. The section aft of the centre section of KB976 is in Australia with the tail section sans flying surfaces at Doncaster.
And the nose section of the ‘KB976’ now at Scampton is the ORIGINAL nose section that was replaced in the late 60s, rather than the one she had whilst at Strathallan etc. That also came from KB994

There is a photo of Mk XVI TE437 RAJ/J Turnhouse circa 1947 in Camouflage and Markings No 1 RAF Fighters 1945 – 1950 UK Based, Paul Lucas, Guidline Publications.
Ooops, managed to post the same link twice – this one shows that mk 16 in post war colours:

They did however, change from the two letter (XT) codes to three letter codes (RAJ) in common with most post war Auxiliary/Reserve squadrons on reformation. When colours started to become popular, the Mk22’s used the red/light blue checks and black border markings either side of the roundel. This marking has often been misinterpreted as light/dark blue checks but, as an ex 603 ‘Auld Reekie’ Regular, I can assure you that the colours reflect the city of Edinburgh (red and black) and the light blue represents the Aux AF – if that’s of any help?
As confirmed by the rather nice colour pic of their Vampies on the SCRAN website (Whose preview images seem to be getting smaller and smaller!)

They also have a couple of shots of 603 Spits – mk 22

RE codes – 602 had RAI, then went to LO before going to their Grey Douglas tartan squadron bands – I presume 603 went the same way (RAJ – XT – fighter bars)
What about NF 389 that was at Lee-on-Solent for many years? Is it at Yeovilton now?
It’s with the FAAHF is it not? I recall at one point it was going to be restored to flight, but that was put on hold.
Anyway, my reason for posting is to ask when the last time was that anybody would have had the opportunity to see five fully-assembled Lancasters in a single day. My guess would be the late-50s or early-60s.
If you had fast enough transport, could you do it in Canada?
Congratulations sir!
I am pleased to respond to Tin Triangle, Consul and Newforest.
I believe that the Hawker Siddeley Dominie T1 XS726 will retain its current red, white and grey and is also in the original rear facing training seat configuration. Its final training role was as an instructional airframe (9273M) at RAF Cosford.
Sorry for any type confusion! 😮
She also retains the original Dominie nose section, so it’s excellent that one of those has entered proper preservation
Looking at pictures of RAF Nepture MR 1s – in retrospect the wing looks too far forward for it to be a Neptune

I wonder if it is a Buckingham or Buckmaster
Could it be be a B-25? – FR209 was around until at least 1951/2

It’s come quite down in height now it’s over Lincs, looks like she’s going straight into Conningsby
Just overflown the northern tip of Lewis
RAFM: can you tell us what is happening please?
The one consistent throuighout this whole saga is complete silence from RAFM – we know from the planning application they intend to display the Kittyhawk, but that’s it!
Am I right in thinking that this is the first time an ex-RAF Phantom has come up for public disposal?
I hope they do, but having had a look at it last year, it’s not in a good condition
I suspect the Lightning will end up as a cockpit project
