    TT.18

Clue is the ILS top centre with the three marker lamps to the right of it.

    Trim/Flaps to the far left.

Alt, ROC and Turn/slip to the far right.

    Regards
    Ross

    Ross,

Any pics from your instrument projects? Come on don’t be shy, they look very impressive.

Does Shellac count? Comes from the Lac Insect in Thailand. If I remember correctly….Electricians and armorers used it a lot?

Shellac was used in Air Ministry equipment used during WWII (and after) such as AMU, API, radio’s etc. The substance is actually the poo from the Lac insects. I was shown a jar last week. Didn’t know it then either 😮

Isn’t this the remains of a Rose tail turret cupola?

Doesn’t look like Fraser Nash to me.

Not this one, it’s AE436 of 455 Squadron, recovered from Tsatsa, Sweden where it force landed in 1942, the Hunt Brothers have one from Russia though, more information on the East Kirby one here http://hem.passagen.se/laurimaa/tsatsa_eng.htm

Wasn’t it just a tailsection of a Hampden?

Indeed a cracking book TT. 😀

Sea Hornet remains, Liberator noses in orchards, and they actually scrapped that Dutch B-24 after all the effort 😮

    .

Yes, but a lot of that B-24 is on show at Soesterberg among which are an undercarriage leg with tyre, the instrument panel with central pedestal and the nose turret. A lot more is in store such as the nosesection forward of the windscreen.

The complete B-17 was named Dinah Might and was found in 1946/1947 IIRC, the olive drab had been weathered back to almost orange. Due to the high reeds it had been hidden for so long (but not very much longer after discovery).

    Hi Cees
Just to clarify, for those those of us not so familiar with which museum you’re involved with – what is the identity / location of “our museum”?

    Hi Consul,

    See this link: http://www.arg1940-1945.nl

    Good idea,

My wishlist has only one item:

A Halifax throttle box in restorable condition 😮

(in fact any Halifax bits and pieces)

apart from that I would like a complete aircraft turret. (was
offered one a few months ago but having just bought a house
    it was not possible then).

    Nothing impossible here.

Must admit (and I know this is drifting off the main topic again, so sorry) I never did grasp why an H2S blister couldn’t be made and fitted to the Lanc?

Must be something about the cost as the perspex noses for YAM’s and Trenton’s Halifax has been a problem for years as well. The Lancaster H2S cover is also made of perspex and it must be able to withstand the airflow etc.

    Cheers

I fully agree, the IWM is doing some very nice work on British aircraft lately. Keep it up. The Hermes is looking fantastic. BOAC livery or not, she is a beauty.

That’s exactly how MK732 looked like at Abingdon in the seventies while in use as a spares ship for the BBMF.
