    Not only the Lincoln Peter,

But I think the value of a Lincoln isn’t much judging by the lack of interest in a very well known Lincoln wreck.

Did you save the Lancaster panels they built a shed of in Canada?

In Sptifire the History it is suggested that Rolls Royce had studied the inverted V-engine in the early or mid 1930’s and even made a wooden prototype, with photographs shown in the book. A German party visited the works and were shown the wooden prototype.

But if this why the German engine manufacturers were inspired, I doubt it. Had probably more to do with vision over the nose.

But its a nice story anyway.

The second photo from the top posted by Mark 12 shows the rear fuselage of a Wellington. The silver finish could point into the direction of a T Mk 10.

682al, nice pics about the spade grips, Hurricane/Typhoon/Tempest?
Keep them coming as anything is interesting. Probably hordes of people are now feverishly trying to contact you to persuade you to sell them. :p

Any pics about turrets in scrapyards?

The Skyfame Collection was founded by Peter and Gwladys Thomas at Staverton in Gloucestershire in the early 60’s. Finally closed around 1978, initally the majority of the aircraft were on loan to the IWM but I believe that they are now all owned by the IWM.

    Aircraft included.

    Tempest II
    2 Mosquito’s
    Avro Anson
    Airspeed Oxford
    Fairey Firefly
    Saro A1
    Cierva C30
    DH Sea Venom
    Proctor
    Miles Hawk
    HP Hastings
    Vampire
    Auster AOP9
    Short Sherpa
    Flying Flea

    septic.

Don’t forget the cockpit section from Halifax VII PN323. I will see that one up close in a few days. Can’t wait.

    Ok Ok I’m biased. :p

    Dave,

The source you never would have expected to be worthwhile, usually yields some unexpected results. 😉

    Speaking from experience.

    Well,

It looks suspiciously like the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer. The section is too thin (judging by the photo) to be a main wing leading edge. That has a much thicker section. So port horizontal leading edge fits the bill nicely.

    Nice item Roger.

    Bomberboy,

I have heard that story about the Lanc as well but without any confirmation. But it wouldn’t surprise me as the HP Hampden and Halifax both have been looped. According to “Hazel” the testpilot of Handley Page, it was sometimes normal practise to loop a Hampden during testing (perhaps if the pilot wanted some action). The same test pilot also mentioned that the Halifax had been looped but it was unclear under what kind of circumstances, I would suspect in an emergency.

A Warwick would be a nice idea but the Wimpy is more significant to the majority of the aviation community.

I don’t think that there would be a lot of interest to recreate one (please prove me wrong), considering the scale of such a project. Then again any project is a daunting task, it just takes some stubborn and enthusiast people to work miracles.

I just got the latest Aerocollector today and the MWM is still wanting any Wimpy bits for the recovered forward fuselage.

As well as Whitley bits. A lot of familiar names in that issue. 😉

Very nice, but I haven’t got a clue about the Dutch grafitti. It doesn’t make sense.

Drawings are pretty much under my remit at the moment. We have incomplete sets of blueprints (blue on white paper) for the Halifax and Victor and a handful of construction drawings (b&w line drawings) of some sort for the Hastings. That’s all I could find on an initial look; it would be best if you could make an appointment through me for a day in the new year when you can come and look at them. I can then confirm what else we might have in the meantime.

[EDIT] I’ve just seen your location! In that case just let me know how you might want to proceed.

    Best wishes,

    Jonathan

    Hello Jonathan,

I enjoyed the discussion about the drawings etc. long may it continue as it is a very important topic regarding restoration. Especially regarding the Tiffie drawings as it would be about time for Dave to start building his 😉

Harry F Mitchell already collected the Halifax drawings I selected from Duxford and had them copied. If all goes well I will meet him on January 2nd at Lambeth where I will receive them. He wil make arrangements with the IWM staff there so we can meet in private without others interfering.

    Cheers

L7775 for the Braemar Wellington seems to ring a bell with me. Last time I was at East Kirkby I think the wings were stored under a lean-to but were also on public view.

    Yes Charles,

Bang on, that’s the one I remember.
