The rocket launchers are 4.75 inch and they are ‘live’ and used for display purposes. They fire phosphourus rounds.
…
And another..
Hopefully it’ll work this time…
sorry guys, off topic…
Steve Young: Not sure if you go my PM but, http://www.skygod.plus.com its the Pathfinder flying club for the fireflies, suprised you hadn’t come across them before.
Great program, just had to watch it even though Ch5 has ‘snow-storm’ reception in this area. Ch5 do seem to do a fair amount of aviation based programming, good on ’em!.
I seem to recall a similar recovery of a C130a (possibly gunship variant???) from the ice. Not so deep though, the engines were replaced/overhauled and she was then flown back to th USA. I guess she is now in a museum.
Aren’t they due to move to Greenham Common?
Walrus perhaps??

Does anyone know anything of the Canberra on the firedump at Wyton? Saw it from the air the other day.
It’s been there for 7/8 years, there used to be 3 on the dump there, so far as I can remember. Left over from the mass scrapping when the rest were retired. I think it may be something to do with an arms treaty. Left there so the Ruskie satelites can see it. Maybe Steve Young knows more.
AJ_march Do you fly from Wyton? There are civvie Fireflies up there for hire at about HALF the going club rate…..

I actually hope he’d do a Battle of Britain project – I mean, just how GOOD would that be??
Sure it would be good to see, so long as it’s not a remake of the original film.
So how’s your book coming along then Daz??? Nothing stopping you turning it into a film script…
Thanks for the input guys, starting to look like an interesting list…

Pretty certain it was from a Haddenham airfield, near Thame in Oxfordshire. I’ve got some more details about the story at home somewhere but unfortunately I’m off out this evening so I’ll try to dig it out tomorrow night. Unless someone else beats me to it!
I stand corrected!:o There must be two places with the same name. I must admit that I wasn’t aware of an airfield at Haddenham Cambs, I’d assumed a ‘large farm strip’ was used….
Daz, If you don’t want to go the VW route and fancy something different (as if!!!:p 😀 ):

Well, quite frequently used to get told that I looked like Johnny Depp… could be worse I suppose!
Oh, 10 years ago it was Chesney flippin Hawks, NOT amused!
Watch out tomorrow night, yours truely is on the box in Velvet Goldmine (CH4)…eeek! fortunately most of what was shot didn’t even pass the censor for the cinema release, there’s even less in the TV and DVD versions.

Most vivid memory of Memphis Belle being filmed…
As a CCF (like ATC but couldn’t march! and got to go flying more!) cadet whilst on camp at Henlow. We set out to Duxford in the morning and arrived in the car park to see the whole flight of 5 B17’s, numerous P51’s and ME109’s(ok, Bouchon’s) (I think a B25 aswell, not sure) start engines and take-off in very quick sucession. The whole place just shook, what a noise! and a sight never to be seen again.
The best bit was then spending the rest of the day at Marshalls messing around in the chipmunks. Having done ‘all the aeros in the book’ we were just about to return to Cambridge when we spotted a large formation approaching. We got no closer than a couple of mile,s but all the same, a magnificent sight and one that I’d never imagined I would see.
