Buying the last almost airworthy Carvair, if its not too late.
It was for sale a couple of years ago at $180,000 🙂
It was a Gnat for me…from the REDS of course.
Found a tiny one in the fuel tanks on a Dart Herald , recently returned from North Africa….i should also mention it was very dead.
Bump 🙂
Allerfree indeed …………. but it it suitable for Dogs? 🙂
(Thread now drifting way off centreline )
We dont mind the reserection Jaybee, its interesting to think that the accident happened almost 42 years ago to the day.
It was good to read back through all the posts which worryingly i started over 3 years ago :0)

Great Thread, glad its still alive a kicking.
Great memories for me both as a schoolboy visiting the museum, and then onto Harvest Air & BAF for my taste of employment in the aviation industry.

PS I also remember the Beverly on finals for 24 on its arrival.
There is a chap in Southend / near Southend that has a Carvair Prop in his garden – this was a few years ago now so I don’t know if it is still there – it isn’t one I have seen so I don’t have a photo but it was quite a well known one.
I went passed that garden on Good Friday, and couldn`t see it anywhere.
A few memories below from the Air Britain site

I remember ADS being packed out with aircraft in the late 70`s.
At least 8 Thrush Commanders all off to Sudan if I remember correctly, the usual flock of Pawnees, a Cessna Skymaster and of course the Bumble Bee who`s radio never worked, with the tower asking Ladi to push the PTT button “once for yes and twice for no”.
Ladi Marmol sadly no longer with us, and remembered as someone who always welcomed you to his hanger for a look round. He lived just up the road from me in a house named Avalon which is still there. I wonder if it was named after the Avro Avalon?
Any updates on this one ?
Yesterday all I could see was the fuselage rocking side to side as the large craine chopped the wings in half, the cockpit was still attached then, however this morning all I could see was two lumps of fuselage left, i was unable to get to that side of the airfield today, so cannot confirm whats happened to the cockpit.
Dont start me on the Hanningfield one again.
That one is G-AOHL ex BA & BAF ( Cabin Trainer ). Just the cockpit though.

Guided Tours
Alastair Welch – SEN`s MD gave a nice commentry on the guided tours operated on Friday & Saturday of last week, its been a while since wizzed off down runway 06, and a first for doing it on a coach.
However, Alistair made a point of stating that old airframes were not popular with him, first on his list for disposal was the Belfast, and he stated it would be scrapped anyday now. 😮
The Aussie 748`s were also on his list on the Northside, as were the 737-200, F27 and Shorts 330/360 on the “McD`s Apron” – still I guess he only wants the best for SEN new modern future :p
