Newforest appears to be the closest 🙂
Have a look on the site for the details if interested.
Thanks for your input.
Thanks for the replies so far, I will pop over on PPRuNe and ask also.
Red Arrows
I was just wondering if the Reds are landing at SEN this year, so sent them an email. This is the reply . . . .
“The Red Arrows will be landing and operating from Manston Airfield, but are scheduled to be at Southend airport on the Sunday for a Meet the Pilots event.”
So that mean a few Hawks on the ground, or just guys in Red boiler suits ? 😀
Answers on a postcard please. :p
Nick I see the Flea mentioned there, whats happened to that now? I seem to remember it going up to Earls Colne, then maybe Tilbury ? With its condition being far from at it was at Southend.

I was also shocked to see the condition of the Drover which i think is now at Lasham, great shame for a rare type in the UK.
And before the “Top Hat” mod on that hanger, they used to jack the front up, and pull em in. 😀
Pete,
The main crowd line is West of the pier, heading towards those cockles
( your brave 😀 ) so you should see something !
But I would say you should think of moving at least 1 mile East from Old Leigh for a decent view. Dont forget to pop in the Southend Airport itself, as members of the public are allowed access out onto the grass in the centre of the airfield, and “most” display aircraft will be on display etc.
Entrance to the seafront is of course free, and the airfield . . .well thats not of course. 😎
Dont worry about me, i will just sit here pushing the refresh button 🙁
Great to see the work progressing – roll on the British Summer and some decent weather, working on a Viscount in the cold and wet brings back a few memories. 😀
Well done guys.
Ian,
It maybe worth asking if it ended up at Peter Vallance`s Gatwick Museum, I know some bits went there eventually and at least 1 airframe ( seahawk ).
There must be well over 100 models there that I have seen.

They have published some open days this year, and its well worth a trip.
“WJ244” maybe able to throw some light on this one ?
With one already preserved at Cosford, a second example would i am sure be very remote.
There are only two ways that it will leave, both of which are mentioned in previous threads.
Lets hope its the aussie option as us lot at SEN are famous for our aussie bound airliner send off`s. 😀
Oh go on Stuart feel free. 😀
G-AOHL was the first thing i was let loose on as a spotty 16 year old apprentice at BAF, and hence my interest. Guess it was not to be.
These were from a couple of years ago, plus a definite reluctance to part with the Viscount Cockpit, despite it being offered a few months earlier at £500 🙁

😡
Lots of activity at the moment, but then there is a fair bit to do. 🙂
