Not sure if it’s as straight forward as that, the Lightnings life is worked out on the Fatigue Index, this is a smart little box burried in the fuselage on the starboard side and logs all the ‘G’ that has been loaded on the airframe.

Dependant on how much ‘G’ is loaded during a sortie can sometimes dictate the servicing required before the next flight and it’s not unheard of for a Lightning to use up all it’s FI units a very long time before it’s airframe hours are reached!!.

    Regards,

    John.

Seems I am still a bit of a newbie then:D:D.

The aeroboot is a big draw for me too, got loads of bargains from them, much to the annoyance of the boss:o.

Would this mean the complete removal of all of the other exhibits currently on display in the Hangar JJ is kept in?, providing of course that it will be that particular Hangar it gets rebuilt in.

There is plenty of room in that hanger for JJ to be worked on whilst keepint the exhibits to one side, it would be a requirement though to keep JJ and all the required equipment, documentation, design records, materials and so on to be kept separate from the public, the CofA requires and almost sterile environment where everything is 100% traceable.

This shouldn’t be a problem as you are allowed in the restoration hangers at Duxford, but only behind roped access, employing this at East Kirkby shouldn’t pose a problem.

My feelings on returning Just Jane to flight are quite simple at the moment, she should stay as she is, this is a unique place to re-live our past and offer the most unique chance (in the UK) of a taxi ride in her, we have an airworthy Lancaster on the airshow curcuit and should the worst happen to her then JJ is the best candidate to replace her.

    Regards,

    John.

There is nobody in a position to impose such ‘terms’.

If they were to use their own money then they can keep it in the turkey shed if they wish.

    Moggy

By your reasoning then if they were to use there own money then they can surely use any un-qualified labour to re-build ‘Just Jane’???, the CAA lay down a set of rules concerning hangarage and the control of the sterile environment that allows for a final CofA.

    JB.

Probably not. The BBMF are very lairy of flying formation with civilians.

    They managed it with 558?

    Only reference to ejector seats……

ex-military type plane in private ownership which was equipped with ejector seats

    Crew egress described as follows….

The two crew of the plane escaped without apparent serious injury

Two male crew members were confirmed as to be clear and free of the plane before the arrival of the Fire Service

Do ejection seats in privately owned jet aircraft have to be armed for a CofA?.

Why was she painted anti-flash white and designed to carry nuclear free fall munitions?.

I was always under the impression that TSR-2 was designed as a replacement for the Canberra and was to be used in the Nuclear role as well as a recconasence role too.

    Bruce,

Let me know if you want to part with any spare E2B you might have, I have been on the scout for one for a while, preferably in good condition.

    Morning all,

There seems to be very little news about the Vulcan Scramble event, it’s been nearly a week now and there has been nothing published on the TVOC website (the Turn and Burn event has had a full report) and there only seems to be my pictures that have been posted on fora.

Surely if this event was a success and was done to raise awareness of 558 then we should have seen a full report by now?.

    Gents,

My appologies, I was of course refering to “Fifi”, for some reason Enola Gay was spinning round my head at the time of typing.

thanks for posting the pics, lots of big grins here!:D:D:D

No flying RAF Jags unfortunately, absolutely no FI left on the wings!

    John

If they were unexpectedly retired early with no FI on the wings, how would they have carried on to their planned retirement date?:)
