Newbie view, A different angle?
I have read this thread with interest and it formed a basis for my once yearly visit to Hendon, so yesterday I trudged down the A1 and took my time with the Halifax to get some good shots of her.
My feelings on the condition she is in are very mixed, I can agree to seeing her restored somewhat but then what soul would she have left after restoration?, At the moment I am for the idea of having her preserved as she is but with ALL the parts that were salvaged.
The area around her is quite roomy at the moment and I can not see why the remaining parts could be put back and a more informative display on the importance of the Halifax and the part that this great aircraft played in WWII.
It would be nice to see more information and educative displays about the Halifax in Hendon and this may in turn get more people interested and could lead on to restoration.
Onto the pics, appologies for the shabby attempts but I am still learning:o .

That all for now.

John.

I agree, having two children of my own I can not understand why their children where left unattended.

Albert Ross,
Nice touch:D , shame about the containers in the background though, I dug this one up which has the least background clutter (just a couple of errant blue barrels) which might be a bit more usefull……

This is the closest I have to a pairs run but as sure as Lightning’s will be Lightning’s the gremlins crept in, 728 only has one burner lit and 904 had problems starting which meant a single engine run in cold thrust only…….

This one I have is not a taxiing one but it best demonstrates the raw power, I can even hear the thunder just looking at the pick, 904 earlier on this year with chocks in and No.1 on full re-heat, nose squat and transonic vapour in the intake…….simply awesome:D 😀 ……

There are a damn sight better pics out there than my feeble attempts, Ihope you find what you are looking for.

John.

It’s all about perspective……
😮 😮 😮 you mean more than a complete bucanneer!! jeez why are they so expensive?
What can you do with a Bucc?, once you have one all you can do is make it look pretty and sit in it and make jet noises:D .
With prices for a flying Spit running at around or above the 1 million mark then 20k for a merlin plus the re-build cost for flight is cheap in comparrison, IIRC a crated Merln that is certified for flight might set you back a couple of hundred thousand, even that seems cheap when you think of the overall value of a flying Spit.
