    53-675; G27-45 (ZF581).

First flight by R. P. Beamont on 19/12/67 from Salmsbury, Delivered to Jeddah on 16/9/68 by Flt Lt Anders.

Spent her career with 2Sqd and reported in storage at Riyadh 04/71.

Returned to the UK in the 80’s with a possible deal with the Austrians but the deal collapsed.

Sorry but this is the best I could find, it seems that the historys of Saudi/Kuwait airframes are understandably sketchy.

I think the simple fact is that the Tu 144 was a completely Russian effort with no real technology transfer from Concorde.

Then why did they look almost identical?:D .

From Wiki so this is not reliable but adds to the mix…….

Although the Tu-144 flew before Concorde, its development was alleged to be connected with industrial espionage against the French company Aérospatiale, which was developing Concorde. When Sergei Pavlov —officially acting as Aeroflot’s representative in Paris—was arrested in 1965, he was in possession of detailed plans of the braking system, the landing gear and the airframe of Concorde. Another agent named Sergei Fabiew, who was arrested in 1977, was believed to have obtained the entire plans of the prototype Concorde back in the mid-1960s. However, even if this were to be confirmed, the documents were early development plans and would not have permitted the USSR’s engineers to come up with their own aircraft; the plans could only serve as a general indication of the work of the Concorde design team.

    A couple of stories I heard…..

First the Paris crash, there was a photographer on the flight deck and during the display the pilot took evasive action when another aircraft got to close, the manouver was a steep dive and this caused the photographer to drop his camera which lodged itself behind the control column and jamming it.
When the camera was pulled clear the pilot pulled out of the dive to fast and overloaded the wing which caused the failure.

Second, during the cold war/spying period there was obvious leaks within the design industry and the airframe designers put faults within the drawings for the wings of Concorde, these faults made it through to the construction of the Tu-144 and contributed to the wing failure at Paris.

    Just stories I’ve heard:confused: .

Me neither, though the bills will keep coming in all winter, and there will be no airshow income at all to help defray them – even to the very small extent that they might during a “busy” summer.

If they did hold her back, would it be at risk of missing the opportunity to find some corporate sponsorship for the back end of this year and early next, and thus risk the future of the whole project all over again?

So near now, good luck to all involved now the “tape” is in sight.

    Paul F

Paul, yes I see where you are comming from, maybe I should be a little more descriptive than just ‘hold everything’:o .

What I should have expressed is that ultimatly it is down to one of two things now and both could potentially kill the project at the last hurdle, one is of course paperwork and the good people at the CAA as they really do have the very last say in the matter (we really like them right now;) 😉 ) and the other is any technical gliches.

At best these could just be minor snags that are rectified on the pan and don’t hinder the progress and at worst it could be complete engine failure/fire that could put an end to it all.

Of course I am just speaking out loud and not wishing any of this upon them, I for one have supported the project for a number of years now and it never stops amazing me seeing what has gone on and how much they have acheived.

My gut feeling right now is that it has taken so long to get this far that I would hate for them to rush one last hurdle and get bitten by something silly, no doubt that I am chomping at the bit as we all are to get ourselves down to the first public display but whenever it is,I will be happy just to be there.

As for airshow revenue and corporate sponsorship I have no doubt that they have lost a big chunk of this years oportunities and they are not screaming out for more cash at the moment so maybe when they get in the air and hit at least one airshow (Autumn Airshow Duxford Oct 14th:D ) then it could be enough to carry them through the winter and on to a full year next year.

Stunning video 903, the touch and go was breathtaking, took my breath away and left me with a lump in my……throat:diablo: .

I don’t mind if they hold everything till next airshow season, better to get it right rather than mess it up now after all they have done so far.

in reply to: What does aircraft preservation mean to you? #1294789

I got up this morning and saw the latest 558 thread boosted and I looked forward to catching up on what was happening but instead it had diverted off on a tangent, so I thought Id start a new thread for people to discuss their own views on what preservation means to them, and I hope we can get some sensible views, heres mine and lets see what happens:

I have always been interested in preservation, aircraft trains & other forms of transport, but living in Crawley it was hard to follow, especially with the job I had. When I lost that job due to arrogance, bullying and discrimination I then had time to follow my hobbies.

So thanks to my step son’s birthday last year I was able to put my heart and soul into aircraft preservation, but not being qualified in anything other than playing with trains I didnt think Id manage it, but I managed to scrounge and buy my own manuals and set to work on restoring an aeroplane by studying those manuals day and night, talking to others and basically putting my heart and soul into something that I can be proud of and Im also learning new skills which Im hoping may assist me in my search for work.

The teams that keep ground running, flying or static aircraft going are people that I envy and aspire to be as good as them one day.Teams at Brunty (everyone) & MAM but to name a couple do sterling work and if it wasnt for the likes of them I doubt Id be where I am now. One day I will get the chance to get up to both of these places and I cant wait.

these are my views, so what does everyone else think of aircraft preservation?

    Bex

    Bex

I am a few rungs down the ladder from you and aspire to do what you are doing at the moment, Right now I have a young family which are my priority and I also work shifts which don’t allow me regular time off, also my ‘local’ aircraft museum is 45 minutes drive away which isn’t all bad as there are two to chose from (Newark or Doncaster).

My collection is growing and centered around one type (no guessing:D) but I am keenly interested in most things, I hope to one day be able to give up my spare time on days off to volenteer at a museum but that won’t be until my kids both go to school full time.

Preservation at the moment means so much to me in so many ways, from the very least of just holding onto something rather than scrap it becouse it’s a bit rusty, take Sunderlands Vulcan for example, some would say scrap her becouse of the condition she is in but with the drive and determination of ‘young blood’ her future is looking better, even if it is only for a few years longer isn’t it worth it?, I think so.

Your Canberra is in a poor state and again people would say why bother but that to me is a bad attitude, if we all carried that attitude where would we be in twenty years time with dwindling museums and nothing to look at.

We all look up to people no matter where we are on the ladder, it gives us inspiration to do better, personally I enjoy each museum on merit from the very smallest to the very best and envy those that work within them, one day I shall make the step and even if its just sweeping up and cutting the grass I will be as happy as…..well you know the rest:) .
