So all this 20 second stuff up the runway has been I would say pretty important. [/QUOTE]

    Andy

You know how important it is to me and I dare say a fair few others too, It is sour grapes that the September date has been cancelled but hopefully not for long;) .

    Thanks John
You just restored my faith in humanity!
Keeping these aircraft in running order is hard work.
We have some youngsters working with us (my own son is only 16) and they are the future of Aircraft preservation in the UK. If they read postings such as Bruggen 130’s little effort, they might just retire to there bedrooms, turn up the music and give up, remember they are probably more likely to read something on a pc than the rest of us old *******s.
Bruggen 130, should you ever bother to show your face at Bruntingthorpe (though I doubt you would be interested in our rubbish efforts) come over and say hello, I will introduce you to the yongsters, they will happily show you around, and maybe even educate you about what it is to be a REAL aviation enthusiast, one of the guy’s (and gal’s) without who, you wouldn’t have anything to see or pass jugement on in the first place.
You know, this thread has realy got to me!
Thanks again John and anyone else who supports our work (you are the Real enthusiasts), and if you are ever around on a Saturday, or at a show, say hello, our names are on our overalls, and we will be very happy to show you around.

    Feeling slightly ashamed now:o

    Rich&Max

I have made myself known to the LPG guys and spoke in great lengths wth 320psi (Andy), I have also known about you and your efforts at Brunty and also heard of you at Cockptfest.

It is to my own shame that I have not said ‘hello’ yet but hopefully I will correct this at the next open day, be sure that if I am there I will see to it that I come over and shake you and your son by the hand and have a good old chin wag.

As I might have restored your faith in humanity, you and your son (and all others at Brunty) have restored my passion in aviation.

Many thanks and keep up the good work,

    John.

    Some good thought there,

To expand on the multi-role idea I think we should clarify exactly what is meant by ‘multi-role’, the Bristol Fighter was a multi role aircraft but not on the same mission (I think:confused: ), whereas some aircraft are classed as ‘swing-role’ as in able to undertake two different mission profiles within the same sorte.

I can only think of the Jaguar that was the earliest to do this for the British but i could be wrong.

    To all at Bruntingthorpe

Bruggen 130’s post is drastically below the belt an not very sporting, I have only just recently in the past few years got back into the aviation scene and Bruntingthorpe is one of the BIGGEST reasons.

I am a child of the seventies and remember the likes of Buccs, jet-pigs, Vulcans, Lightnings and Hunters on the airshow curcuit and long for those days to return, thanks to all those at Brunty for the odd twenty seconds I can be transported back to the good days and the senses are filled with all the emotions and excitement to boot.

    Rich&Max

Your post is on the money throughout and I for one can not be gratefull enough for what is being done at Brunty, keep up the good work and as long as the gates are opened up I WILL be there.

    Regards,

    John.

    Hi

A quick hunt through the books brings up an interesting and detailed article in Stewart Scott’s English Electric Lightning, Volume One, Birth Of A Legend.

The Two Lightnings in question are from the development batch of P.1B’s XG333 and XG311, one had UHF radios and the other had VHF radios which meant neithe could communicate with one another and also neithe aircraft had IFR capability. The engines and other systems were removed and then they were cocooned for transport as deck cargo to Aden.

In Aden harbour they were unloaded by crane and then towed to RAF Khormaksar by road, the trials were mainly to asses the Lghtnings capabilities in hot climates and there are some very interesting stories including XG311 engaging the barrier after hydraulic faliure.

Do you mean his ‘Top Gun speach’?, never really thought about TG in that way but come to think of it there was quite a few shower scenes:rolleyes: .

From my very un-educated point of view this chart says it all really……

51% of the total UK carbon emmisions are caused by our houses and cars!!!

I think the reason why they aren’t protesting about roads is that sadly this subject of global warming is now a fashion thing driven by air-headed celebrities that require an extention on their fifteen minutes of fame.

These fashion waves have been picked up on by the pollititions that are desperatly trying to gain the majority vote and sadly it has snowballed out of proportion as the word of a pollotition is seldom reliable.

And to think that as reported some locals are supporting them by providing food and whatever else for them to keep the protest going while the jobless layabouts are sucking the life out of their tax contributions.

    John.
