Depends what condition she is in, if the wings are cut and what state the pit is in.

There is little info on the DSA website at the moment but you can bet that if the pit is complete and the bang seat is there and she can be easily taken apart for transport then it will be easily past the 12K mark.

She could just about fit in my back garden but then we would have to duck to get throught the back door and the next door neighbour would have a new carport:diablo: 😀 :diablo: .

    Permision to hijack thread:( .

I am stunned by the value of a spade grip, a beautifull piece of history that I would love to own but sadly my wallet doesn’t agree

I would like to know the aproximate value of my stick top, I got it a few years ago and mounted it on a stand, the cables are housed within the base of the stand and all the switches work perfectly.

After seing the Callender report I decided to go and have a look myself today.

When I parked up alongside the main entrance I was amazed to see there was absolutely no security on the site, the main gate was just swinging open in the wind, There were two police men there investigatiing reports of people dgging up cable during the daytime:eek: .

Anyhow it was with the gratefull supervision and permision of the police that I was allowed onto the site very briefly to take a couple of snaps.

Externally she is in very good condition….

All of the building has been ransacked, burnt, smashed and boarded up but thankfully they have not yet turned there full attention to the Hunter….

The cockpit is pretty much gutted but I guess this would have been how it was deliverd in the first place, the canopy having been smashed for some theif to remove the dummy that had a flight helmet on it….

I must stress that my access to this site was very brief and under the supervision of the local constabulary, I do not advise that anyone willfully breaks the law tresspassing, have respect for other peoples property and stay safe.

    Kindest regards,

    John.

    Dean,

True and proud, born a ‘Croft Baker’ child in the year 19……:D .

To qualify you have to be born within the triangle of Isaac’s Hill, Six Hill and Beacon Hill.

    Old gits are the best!!!!!

    Oh my god:D 😀

Well you learn something new every day, I have just been on the phone to my Grandad who is a life long resident of Cleethorpes, he tells me that a high wing monoplane of some sort used to fly off the beach at the boating lake end down over the pier and circle the wonderland and back to the boating lake.

It was about 5 bob a trip and apperently in the family archives there is a picture of him and my dad climbing onto the plane sometime in the early fiftys.

So now I am going to have to hunt down said photo and fnd out more, the day just gets better:D 😀 😀 .

The forts in the Humber estuary have been sold to private owners in recent years but still remain untouched, Bull fort is used as a navigation aid to ships and has a bell on top that automatically rings using gas pressure.

Haile fort is just as derilict and serves only as an aid to ships passing into the humber, recently there were plans afoot to try and convert Bull fort into a detoxification center for drug addicts which obviously met with strong opposition.

Appologies for thread creep:o , I have read a few book on the history of good old Cleethorpes (my birthplace:D ) and do not recall anything about pleasure flights from the beach.

Come to think of it I can’t think of a suitable place long and smooth enough to land an aircraft, would be interesting to find out more.

    Last Last Lightning Show

Here is the list of aircraft that took part in the last Binbrook airshow 1987.

It would probably be best to pick a year that you are going to put Binbrook in and then do your research from there, some AC were shuffled between squadrons and so served on both 5 and 11.

Also it would be a nice touch if you put out airfield decoys too, I have an aircraft participation list for the 1987 Last Last Lightning Show which gives serials and squadrons, also it has a list of airfield decoys on it too.

If you want I could try and scan it in and post it.

I watched the Callender East evening news today and they did a report on the Humbrol factory, the factory has yet again been targeted by arsonists and theivs that have gone in with jack hammers to dig up copper power cables.

They never showed the Hunter in the report but I’m sure that it will have suffered more since the last time she was mentioned on this thread, funny though the new owners of the site were unavailable for comment and seemed happy to leave the site unsecure and succumbing to the hands of vandals.

The local people are now understandably tired of what is going on and and are pressuring the powers that be to get something done, lets hope that the Hunter will be removed soon before the worst happens.

The F100F at Lashenden was involved in a fatal accident just recently and was quite badly damaged, I heard that the museum where it is at the moment does not have the funds to repair her and from a safety point of view removal of her is the best option.

If anyone has any more info on her I would be interested to find out.

    Mosschops,

There are great long debates about this very subject on this forum and it is a debate that can rage on for a very long time, In short the Lightnings were fatgue expired as much as possible towards the end of their sevice carrer and the few that did have some fatigue life left on them are now in Cape Town flying again.

The Vulcan is such a massive aircraft it grabs everybodys attention but there are lovers and haters in equal proportions, just check out some of the 558 threads and you will see why, the Vulcan when flown into Brunty still has plenty of fatigue life left in the airfram and spares for her are in ready supply in this country, also OEM’s for this airframe are still in buisness and able to provide support for spares, all in all there was enough public interest and spares to make a return to flight possible.

There are of course other jets that are flying in the UK, Hunters, Canberra, Jet-Provost and also the HHA have the approval to get a Buccaneer back into the sky, as for the Lightning’s they are massivly complicated airframes and there are very little if any spares in the UK that would support anything but fast taxi runs.

The CAA are not as bad as people make out, the rules are there for every ones safety and if the criteria can be met then flying a jet in private hands is possible, sadly the CAA are not yet ready to let a private individual fly an ex millitary mach 2+ jet with afterburners in the UK, also the accident record for the Lightning in service is considered quite poor, to the CAA the risk is just not worth it.

    Regards,

    John.
