Thanks for that NCL, I’ll add part three later today since I’m nursing a cold and just doing an email check just now.

One of the reasons I was keen to go back to Lanzarote again (apart from getting a heat) was to checkout the big hill at the end of the Runway, for a long time now I’ve thought there were possibilities for photos there but have only ever seen one from it that was on Airliners.

I was pretty confident we would find some different views from there than the norm and it proved to be an interesting spot to visit after figuring out the best route to get there.

I’ll add photos from it before the end of the day.

    Fred.

In photo two (first 10) you see a lander coming over the lights in the sea and it’s best to get those kind of shots first thing in the morning as the sun gets in front later on.

The ninth one shows a Monarch A300 and you can get an idea of how close the Main Runway is to the fence, it’s really close there and a struggle to fit things in as they flash past at that point.

1st one of the second lot of photos is a Spanish Air Force A310 climbing up over the hill and you can see the wooden pathway they have put in which wasn’t there the last time I visited, makes it easy to walk from end to end and you get a lot of cyclists using it.

4th one of the second lot of photos shows a good spot to park the car which is what we did, you can see the landing lights in the sea behind.

Yes it is a double fence where you see the First Choice 757 and Transavia 737 landing with the people below, this length of fence is the only one where it is double that gives a problem and you can’t shoot through both so it is an area to forget about.

It’s not a problem though as if you walk under the flight path as you look at these two photos the fence curves to the right and it’s a single fence there, in fact there are a couple of holes in it at a nice spot which gives a very good side on view from about 3-30pm onwards until sunset.

On the higher ground for afternoon there is a double fence there too but strategic volcanic rubble helps get over the two of them and in fact you can stand on much bigger mounds about 30 feet back from the fence and not be too effected by it from there.

How about this Iberia 757 it was one of the four missed approaches on our first day due to poor visibility caused by sand from the Sahara in the atmosphere.

It looked to us he was determined to land after missing out on his first effort this was a steep bank close to touchdown, nice landing in the end.

I was hoping there might be a Cygnus Dc8 when we were there but no luck as they come when the Tuna season starts to uplift the catch but it hasn’t started yet.

I think with them it’s something like two visits a week in the mornings but not totally sure about that.

We did okay for Spanish military with a number of Casa 212’s, a Casa 295 that came in twice, the two Hornets and best of all a Spanish AF A310.

During the previous week before we arrived there was a solitary Casa 212 and that was it.

One to look out for is a very occasional visit of a Binter Beech 1900 we saw it twice and I only managed a few shots in very low light, the other was in almost darkness when we had left.

Looks like they only operate into ACE at the weekends late on, I think they are based at TFS.

EK, that are no views in the Terminal now but there is an outside viewing area once airside although it is behind big sheets of glass, I think it’s been boxed in quite a bit since I was there 5 years ago and I didn’t think that much of the view it’s quite obstructed left and right although you could get something from it late in the afternoon when the sun is behind.

As two of you are going to Lanzarote this week I’ll see what I can do about adding “Part 2” a bit earlier than I intended to which are views other than the usual ones that most folk see at ACE like the ones I’ve already uploaded.

There are other spots that can be used around the field and for me part of the fun is figuring out different places than what most people use, I always take a lot of “viewing” photos when I am away somewhere so I’ll add those next.

Yes Lanzarote Authorities were very good and clearly tolerate Spotters and Shooters without any problems.

I left my steps this time but one of the guys had them and he used them all the time without and problems, a mixture of various Security drove past without stopping.

There were six German guys from Hamburg when we arrived that left a couple of days later and all of them had steps, just small flat top ones like what mine are.

Last ones for now and they include the two Spanish Air Force Hornets departing, nice noise with the Afterburners from both and the did a low pass over the bay and buzzed the Military Ramp.
