So why wouldn’t the people ON the ship be saying “hmmm 2 million light-years in 20 years, looks like we broke the light barrier just a smidgen?”

May be perhaps by that time man would have develop the concept of time capsules. Crew onboard can safely encapsulate them for 20 years and may be by then medically its possible to stop if not reverse the aging process.
Yes very far fetched i agree but then we are talking about the future dude atleast 200 years ahead here.

19 -20 Century of oil.
20-21 No Oil so find alternative source, electricity , nuclear power (NASA goes nuclear).
21-22 Development in medical along with propultion give us a chance at Mars.
22- Onwards Perhaps everythign is possible.

Well in case of the 99 eclipes i was on my way to a hilly resort with a friend on motor bike. The road was all foggy and you can assume wht the situation would be like when all a sudden in the middle of the day everything goes foggy and dark. It scared the $*#! out of me. As for this time well my side of the world was already dark by the time the event begain to unfold. Talk about hard luck.
