sorry I forgot to say where it was taken. Yes it was Datangshan Air Museum or Chinese Aeronautical Museum Xiaotanshanzen as it is now named.
I believe it is based on the Nanchang CJ-6 but when I took the shot time was running out and I could not look too closely to see if it had an engine fitted. I think the markings may be faded chinese rather than american as other faded markings looked similar.
Any other thoughts will be welcomed.

Stormbird,
Only just came across this thread. Fantastic pics thanks for letting us see them.

Macfire,
Attached is a shot of NZ5804 obviously taken before its demise on 09/09/55 but I do not know where. I worked on all the other three RNZAF Hastings, first at Dishforth and then at Thorney Island, whilst with 242 OCU. They used to fly them over for servicing and I can recall spending hours polishing the bare metal skin.

Sorry to say I do not know where any of the pics were taken as they are not mine. As to 6 being 70 sqdn I am not too sure as in my time at Nicosia 57-60 its aircraft did not carry Royal Air Force Transport Command markings and the picture is certainly not taken in Cyprus(not that that may be meaningful) but looks more like somewhere in the UK.

Albert,
Thanks for the information and the colour picture. have you any more you can add to the thread? I am sure others would enjoy sharing them.

So far no one has commented on my deliberate mistake to see who was awake. My description of the Gannet emergency landing should have said the pilot opened the bomb doors(not lowered the dustbin) and landed on the bomb doors and the nose wheel. Sorry about that silly error.

One or two more pictures for you.
1 Scimitar F1 XD214 passing through for its tropical trials accompanied by Hunter T7 below.
2 V.745D Viscount OD-ACU of MEA
3 Firefly on delivery to Indian Navy. Without access to my notes I cannot remember the serial. I think it was accompanied by 1 if not 2 Venoms.
4 Gannet AS4 of the RN detachment XA462 coded 086.
5 Hastings C1 TG575 of 70 squadron.
6 Hunter T7 XL566 accompaning XD214.
I recall an incident with one of the navy Gannets. On approaching to land it was discovered that the main wheels would not lower. The pilot lowered the dustbin and did a perfect landing on the dustbin and the nose wheel. It was amusing for the watchers to see the three crew running along the wing and jumping off before the aircraft had come to a stop. It would not have been funny for the crew who fortunately were all quite safe. If you have not seen a Gannet close up it is a big aeroplane and quite high off the deck!

Regarding the SM-79s. When I took the photograph at Nicosia there were three LAF SM-79s. Unfortunately I am trying to sell my house and have packed away most of my notes and reference books so I cannot recall which were the other two.

I think John Cooper almost got it right for the Argosy. I always knew it as the Whistling Wheelbarrow

Now you know what I have to put up with!

I blame my computer Albert, not only can it not spell but it is stupid. I obviously meant Lebonese Air Force.

Thanks for all the discussion chaps. It is highly likely that I scanned the picture mirror image as the negative is one of the grottiest that I have seen and it was difficult to determine which was the glossy side.
Keep up the good work and we may find someone who lived in the house!! I am not convinced that the hut is an ATC hut but I could be wrong.

Well done Steve, I did not think it would last that long.
Attached is the original.

Yes DHfan the port wing has definitely been clipped.
I did not realise when posting this that the car would provoke more interest than the aircraft but at least it has got a discussion going!
