Thanks for your comments and I can stand ribbing when I make a mistake. For some reason I catalogued one or two pics as USMC and VMA. Why I do not know as it clearly says Navy and VA on the pics.

I still have one or two more, which I will post in a few days time.

What nostalgia. My first ever flight was sat on the main spa of an Oxford V3404 at Marham on 14th July 1953. Observer parachute harness on and chute thrown into the back of the cabin. There were only two seats, the pilot insisted on having one and I was the smallest of the three cadets on the flight! The other cadet sharing the main spa with me managed to pick up his chute by the shiny sliver handle as we vacated the aircraft- engines still running- and deployed his chute rapidly down stream. HE was popular.

As for the Magister I practised prop swinging on one with cut off wings at Halton as a Brat. That would be in 1957 I think.

I have one or two pictures of Oxfords that I will look out and post.

My sincere apologies if my remarks regarding WA669 upset anyone. It was certainly not written as JDK read it and the word unfortunate was used because the two on board the Meteor were killed.

However in hindsight it would have been better had I omitted the second sentence.

Thanks Albert. I knew the T7s were from the vintage pair and I saw the unfortunate WA669 crash at Mildenhall.

Your info helps keep the records more accurate.

It is definitely a W.O. badge. When short sleeves shirts are worn there is no where for the normal badge. So a metal W.O. badge was worn on a leather strap.

Sorry for the delay in replying been away from the net for two weeks. As for Leornato’s suggestion about 242 OCU for the Hastings with beams. He could well be right but it is definitely not Thorney Island. I moved there from Dishforth with the OCU and I am sure they never fitted beams to their aircraft whilst I was with the OCU.(1960-1964)
