The Hornchurch ‘Two Men in a Trench’ is being shown on BBC2 this Thursday
Not to mention the immortal verse :-
Van Gogh did some eye-ball pleasers
He must have been a pencil squeezer
He didn’t do the Mona Lisa
That was an Italian geezer
I grew up in Reading in the 1960’s , and have memories of seeing Argosies and Beverleys flying over fairly regularly (from Abingdon ?) I was taken on a few trips to Heathrow , but sadly I can’t remember much about it other than it always seemed to be raining !
Turbo NZ ,
If you would like to experience warbird flying relatively locally , the P-40 at Ardmore (ZK-CAG) does give passenger rides on occasions. My flight was arranged through a British aviation tour group , but if you are interested , the aircraft is operated by a company called Pioneer Aero Restoration. Their address is :-
458 Corsair Lane, Ardmore Airport, Papakura, Auckland.
There are some pictures of it (and other NZ P-40s) here :-
Biggin Hill in the 1980’s , the only time I saw a Sunderland fly. One of my favourite aircraft , and a very graceful display.
Xavier de Lapparent in the Su 26 at Farnborough – I had no idea any aircraft could do things like that !
Constellation , DC6 and DC4 in the air together at Biggin Hill 1998
Mike Bannister was also Chief Pilot for some of the BA short-haul fleet (including the A319 / A320 I believe) , and he will be continuing in this role.
I agree – very nice photos indeed. Thanks very much for sharing them with us.
