After one of my favourite aircraft – and because I too am big , fat and ugly !
If you enjoy flying in classic de Havilland types, I can highly recommend the Moth Club charity weekend at Old Warden, this year on 12-13 June. In previous years, I have flown in a lovely Dragonfly, and a Jackaroo. Numerous Moths of various types are there, and, from memory, it was about £45 a flight last time I went (3 years ago)
I can whole-heartedly endorse Mike’s recommendation. I believe the price is now £55 , which is still a bargain (and it all goes to charity).
Incidentally , does anyone know whether the Dragonfly is attending this year – I have been trying to get a flight in it for some years now !
Hi Brad ,
I can’t make it this year , but I had a great time on last year’s trip – hope it goes just as well this time.
Mark.
DH Fan – If you can get down to Old Warden for the DH Moth Club Charity Flying Weekend you will have a choice of several Tiger Moths to fly in , plus possibly other DH types as well. The prices are very reasonable (normally around £50 or so for about 15 mins in the air ) , and the proceeds go to good causes.
It is an annual event , and is on 12-13th June this year.
My favourite is ‘Julius Caesar’ on an Aldis Lamp
(not to mention ‘Gunfight at the OK Corral’ in Morse code and the Semaphore version of ‘Wuthering Heights’ ! )

Not that it really matters , but it is spelt “Deja vu”
There is often at least one Chipmunk giving flights at the DH Moth Club Charity Flying event at Old Warden. It’s on 12-13th June this year.

I had forgotten all about ‘Squadron’. I can vaguely remember a couple of the episodes :-
One involved an HS 125 de-pressurising at altitude. The decision had to be taken as to whether to shoot it down over the sea before it ran out of fuel (the crew being presumed dead).
Another episode involved a pilot suffering from stress who landed his Harrier in a field and just walked away.
There was also one with Pumas in which a Vietnam vet taught the RAF how to decelerate to a hover very quickly , and this somehow came in useful at the end (I can’t remember exactly how).
Anyone remember any other episodes ?
Nice photos.
I agree , the Tiger does look very tasteful in those colours. For an example of how NOT to paint an aircraft in the colours of a chocolate company , see here :-
I have found a reference to something very similar here :-
I only got 3 ! (should have been 4 , but I stupidly put ‘Territories’ instead of ‘Territory’ for Qantas).
However I do claim some credit for getting KLM almost right (had a single ‘p’ instead of a double ‘p’ in the third word) , since I don’t speak Dutch !
I can’t help thinking that being American might help in this quiz !
It was completely red when I flew in it from Bournemouth in 1983 – the price had gone up a bit by then !
At the time , it has just finished being filmed for a part in the film ‘Bullshot’ , which was a rather average Bulldog Drummond-style spoof.
I can remember a Vulcan at Biggin displaying to ‘Mars’ from Holst’s Planet Suite – that seemed very appropriate and worked extremely well.
