Yeah salt water is a mongrel.Down at Point Cook Spitfire MkV A58-51 (Br545) that was recovered in 1987 has disolved to the point where it is just about scrap, and that is being held in a fresh water tank being recycled regularly as well IIRC.I think there is a special bath that would stabilise the corrosion that is used in stripping vintage cars/steel hot rods etc but it removes all traces of paint as well.Corosion only occurs while there is oxygen present…

Is the captured Spit the same one in BoB doco footage where you see it go down smoking in front of a He111.I ask this as I remember the mention of the wing roundels being a LOT closer to the fuselage than on a standard MkI/II spit.A lot of the target shooting was done over the north sea IIRC,or behind a Ju87 😀

“KERTHUMF”..the sound of me hitting the floor after doing the old English pound to Aussie dollar conversion…With technollagy the way it is I am with Mk12 with this one.We can just about make any bit for a Spit these days, put man into space,go deeper and deeper into the deepest waters on earth, climb the highest peaks and look further and further into the universe. And we can,t get someone to reproduce a bit of rubber tube.Have you tried Antique F1 car clubs for their rubber suppliers?Come on guys this problem needs a solution.

    Is ours worthy??

After a quick chat with Rocketeer the other day via email decided to add a bit of our stuff as well.Doing a cockpit section first to get into the Spitfire groove. And with me to get the feel of aircraft sheetmetal back in my finger tips.Next will be a full size groundrunner we hope. :diablo:
