I totally agree with the new Government’s decision to scrap the third runway at LHR!

The last time I checked, this country had a £163bn deficit hanging over our heads…scrapping the third runway and sixth terminal at Heathrow has saved an estimated £9bn, so we are already starting to make progress on reducing this!

I wasn’t aware the Government was paying for the runway.

Yes, but in practice, it isnt an issue.

DA is an issue for larger, more complex aircraft. It isnt an issue for Spitfire, Hurricane and so on.

    Bruce

Thanks Bruce, so what role to BAE play in keeping Spitfires flying? Strucutral Repair Schemes? Modifications?

Are Spitfires/Hurricanes on Permit to Fly?

Sorry for the questions, a bit unknowledgable when it comes to war birds 🙂

    Sorry, Thread Bump 😀

It is relevent to my question, who holds Design Authority on the Spitfire? BAE?

    Nice capture!

It is a nice change from their rather uninteresting previour colourscheme, but it just doesn’t seem to “flow” nicely.

The road system to Heathrow is crumbling to bits and there is no valid reason to continue ploughing money into Heathrow when it has reached capacity!

That it the most backwards statement I have read on here in a long time. It is precisely the time to be spending money on LHR. This is also a shortsighted move by the government, one that looks good now.

I agree with greater emphasis on rail travel, but it will not reduce the traffic into LHR.

It’ll be interesting to see what this does for Scottish nationalism – even after tactical voting, the Tories only managed to secure one seat in Scotland (out of 59!), but we still ended up with a totally unwanted Tory Prime Minister…

Personally, for me, he is an unwanted Prime Minister. However, the Conservatives did gain the largest proportion of votes and that is a democracy.

I’ll just have to get on with it, I had my vote. 🙂

In fact the majority of Scots don’t want independence – they know which side their bread is buttered, canny that they are. They will whinge daily about the Sassenachs but never give up the billions they squeeze out of Whitehall, for the privilege. And whilst our taxes help them to a better education and health service why should they?

You would think by reading that, that Scot’s don’t pay any tax and are “sponging” on the rest of the United Kingdom. 🙂

Many Scots want independence. Many English people want them to have independence.

And many Scots don’t want independance.

I, for one am against independance. I see it offering no real value to our country, and as more of a show of a nationalistic government craving power. It is a wasted effort, whn other, better servings things could be done.

What’s the crack with obtaining drawings from the Hendon archive? Do you pay a researcher to trawl through them or do you get to do it yourself?

    I’ve wondered about that too.

Ja Worsley, with 3341 ordered aircraft, and 2568 ordered outwith North America – it makes your comment(s) look a little silly. 🙂
