I rent space in a very secure yard between Winchester & Popham Airfield, so if it came in at Southampton & not the Northeast, it would be very close. Lots of spare space available if needed in the rest of the yard.
I’ve recently seen a pic from Wickenby on FB that I think is current, unfortunately it shows it sat outside uncovered in the undergrowth next to what looks like a deralict building.
6 years on from the start of this thread & mentioned in the legends & myths thread, so any news/progress?
^^^^^^^^^ wasn’t it RNAS Gosport? and the area is now a nature reserve now so can’t be dug?
WIX, Yes it appears legal action was mentioned, see below.

But the ‘T’ word is not totally dead on WIX, just a bit lost in the vintage section, the same subject as this thread discussed.

Are the large lumps of Wellington still where they were?
I think the term “metal skinned” use in the ad. rules out the Wellington!
Thanks R6915 so it was true. Maybe it was Staravia, they had several local yards at Lasham, Church Crookham, Finchhampsted, and probably others. IIRC they all closed down in the late 60’s. Maybe they finally relocated to these very private tunnels after using them for storage for some time? Interesting stuff.
Yes it was Staravia, they used the tunnels to store aircraft parts, much was stolen by scrap metal people. I knew the main Ascot yard & the Finchampstead yard very well & large sections of aircraft were in both, but mainly new parts or readily unboltable parts from scrapped aircraft like F-86 tail fins were stacked in large piles. Ascot in the late 70’s even had P-38 drop tanks in it! so who knows what was in the tunnels
Currently there are 3 viable Sabre to the air projects, Kermits Tempest, the UK’s Typhoon & Canada’s Typhoon
Reading over on WiX that this is considered one of the finest CORRECT P-51 restorations out there, the correct as originally manufactured detail is second to none, not one polished part on it 😉
Wow, what a flypast that will make, I hope I’ll get to see it.
100% steering rack off a car, looks like it’s off a Ford Escort/Cortina

Wow what a great RAF career you had Peter, a very good read, have you posted it up as a separate thread before? if not I think you should
…………Shame it’ll never be released on region 2.
Region 1 (USA) DVD’s can be played on many region 2 (Europe) players , some will automatically play multi-regions, others need setting up somewhere deep in the menu or some code bypass, google how to do it for your make/model of dvd player.
I saw what you did Mark12 :), a 5 bladed Merlin, tut tut.
News report of the day (complete with stirring action music ) of the same visit to Lakenheath as Duggy’s pics above
