RE: RHKAAF Alouette & Islander
Whilst on that subject I found this Photo, alas not taken in Hong Kong but at North Weald. I wonder what happened to this Bulldog?

RE: Dutch Constellation
Well done all concerned, all the hard work and pain has finally paid off. A briliant achievement that i look forward to seeing.
Nice photo as well Roger.

RE: Model aircraft.
I found my interest in building model kits faded as i progressed into long trousers (is 35 a normal age for this transition?).
Not knowing this ,my wife brought me two Airfix models to build a couple of years back as she thought it might occupy my simple mind and keep me at home. I think she realisd that this was a bad move when i asked if she had also bought the cotton to suspend them from our bedroom ceiling.
The models are still in their boxes unopened, a B2 lanc and a Spit Vb.
Maybe one day when i get old(er) and more decrepit…….ummm no ! i might not be too safe with sharp implements and glue.
Only joking boys, only joking………now where did i put my Beano ??.
RE: Two Comet questions
I have seen it fly many times at various locations, of course this was when it was able to operate from Hatfield. It has not been able to operate from its current home at Old Warden until the runway was recently extended, although it has been fast taxied in recent years, in fact until the end of last years display season. The plan was to get it airworthy again for the begining of this season, but of course it has been blighted by weather conditions, availabilty of pilot(George Ellis currently will only allow himself to fly it) and techical problems.
It is not listed to display this Sunday at the pageant and even if the problem was fixed today i doubt whether time would permit any display.
I think the best hope is that the correct time is taken to fully sort all of the issues out, get some airtime on her during the Autumn/spring with a view to a full display season next year.
As regards to other examples, these is at least one replica as i remember it and that was build and flown in the US.
RE: R6D-1 or if you prefer VC-118B
I guess we are lucky, albeit a working fleet, that Air Atlantique operate aircraft like DC3,DC6, Convair 440 and to some extent Electra.
When they reinstall their open days you can go along and for a very reasonable fee fly in some of these, plus the historic flight.
It will be interesting to see what happens with their two DC6’s when they inevitably finish their working life.It would be nice, costs permitting of course, if they could operate one of them as part of the historic flight.
RE: Catalinas
Interesting, where has that been stored then ?, I thought that i had scoured NW pretty thoroughly on my last visit and a Cat should be pretty conspicuous!.The Orange one was in the hangar nearest the M11 and no sign of another.Nevertheless its there and US bound.
I would love to get some shots of her airborne as i suspect we won’t see another in this country in that scheme, but I guess it will be gone before we know it.

RE: DC-4 has left for the UK
Flypast has a picture of it stateside (lovely) and confirms that its destination is probably Duxford, primarily for film work. By all accounts should be around for the September display.
RE: The Prentice at Shuttleworth
Whilst talking about Bagington, and i accept this perhaps should be on another forum, I have heard that AA have just aquired some(how many?) DC6’s from Scandinavia. They are due to arrive anytime now and are still in their airline service livery (SAS??). Could make interesting viewing.
RE: A career in historic aviation?
Damien,
How very thoughtful of you, you’re right I am a family man who is getting on a bit and really did not ought to put myself at risk.
Therefore I’ll get my Horlicks, curl up in my chair and dream about this hypothetical job and how much i would enjoy running around after you.

RE: The Prentice at Shuttleworth
Atlantique did just that this year by bring the Gulf Air Dove to Old Warden and displayed it very well.
RE: A career in historic aviation?
Damien.
Love the concept, however not overly keen on the ‘you kill em’ bit, maybe you could take responsibility for that bit as I did kick this job spec off. I am however more that happy to share the photographic side with you, if fact i would go further than share, you could have 75% of it ,ie, planning the shoots, getting the right people there, ordering film, batteries , paper etc, carrying all of my gear, all of the driving and waiting with the ground crews for my return from those exclusive air to air shoots with various warbirds. You could also be responsible for arranging my flights to places like Wanaka, Oshkosh etc to follow various aircraft.
Deal ???
Phil
RE: A career in historic aviation?
Thanks Ashley,
I know of the archive collections but that wasn’t really what I was asking about although obviously they would be connected. Is there someone at Duxford who is employed / sub- contracted to take photos of the collection,OFMC,TFC on an ongoing basis.I assume that all exhibits are periodically photographed, all restorations pictorially archived at every stage, all events recorded, the Duxford working communitiy profiled, the wider community, the site, outside/overseas trips etc etc.
Blimey – I have written the job spec, can someone now please offer it to me !!!

RE: A career in historic aviation?
Ashley,
Just out of interest does Duxford/IWM have a resident photographer?

RE: A career in historic aviation?
Ant,
I know what you mean, but I suppose its a combination of a few things that will allow you to fulfill this.
Your background- ie, Do you have engineering skills, Aeronautics,Avionics etc, or perhaps research/ history disciplines.
Your Geographic location- How far will you have to travel to achieve this.
Your expectations – Is it a labour of love, could you afford to take a lower income to achieve this.
This is all assuming that there is paid work in this field.
Personally i would love to get into Aviation Photo-jounalism, preferably on the historic side. Unfortunately most of these openings seem to be governed by an invisible network and setting up independantly would require some backing/investment.
