    RE: Shackleton Last Rites

Talking of which, anyone know the latest on the Air Atlantique situation with their ‘Shaks’. I thought that BAe systems had relented and that the US based example was due back in the UK.

The question was a purely hypothetical one.
What I was getting at was, given its ‘virgin’ condition would it be possible to fly this aircraft, forgeting its uniqueness and the CAA, purely from an engineering angle.

I know that shuttleworth have a Prentice in rebuild, its on the left as you walk to the end of the workshop, but I thought that they had aquired another at the same time as the Hunting Percival Provost in airworthy condition so as to fill the gap until their rebuild was ready.Perhaps I am dreaming – again .

Long sleek nose, blown canopy, wolloping great RR eagle,contra-props all metal finish – does it for me !.
But sorry Moggy, I forgot that you are now a TV commentator and aviation guru (only joking, each to their own).
    However, could it fly ?

    Thanks for your answer.
I recall reading some of their mandates/resolutions in Flypast sometime ago. Maybe I’ll hunt through my back issues and find out when.

Dont get me wrong, i dont deprive my daughters of aircraft i take both of them (eldest 7) to Old Warden every year at least once, its quieter and safer (less crowds), but fear not i will wean them on to more powerful machines later. We do go ‘spotting’ at Brize Norton, but they find the Vc10’s a bit noisey at close quarters and are happier watching them from our garden a few miles back(at about 2000ft).

    Roger,
Thanks again for the info, its very good news and i look forward to the day that we see two airworthy Connies at a UK airshow.
I have no particular connections with Connies its just i believe it to be a very significant part of aviation development and history.
I would be great to somehow rescue the ex TWA machine from the dark hangar at Wroughton and get her on public view.
    Again Many Thanks
