RE: Aussie Meatbox
OK Ant, I concede the point about the meatbox in RAAF service and I wasn’t trying to belittle that. It was more a case of finding any excuse to moan about important aircraft leaving these shores.
And yes you were right, we did see very little of ‘Winston’ on the display circuit, I think the last time I saw it was at Air Atlantiques 50’s display in 2000 shortly before the sale was secured. That was probably the last display I saw a Canbera at as well!.
What is it with airshow organisers and early jets ?, OK we get to see loads of Vamps, Venoms and Hunters but not great deal of Meteors (NF11) , Canberas (private or service) or the Sea Vixen.
The next thing we know is that the RAF will finally chop the Canbera and we will not get a chance to see any before the axeman cometh.
RE: Save a Sea Vixen
God I wish I could help, this is a wonderful aircraft.
Those who saw ‘Foxy Lady’ display at Yeovilton last week must feel the same way . I would like to think that there is a small (well medium) area in the corner of a museum somehwere in the UK(lets make sure it is the UK) that can house this rare exhibit.
RE: Aussie Meatbox
Look you antipodean whingebags, be bloody grateful that someone sold you the best looking (and sounding) Meteor that used to grace our display skies. I don’t think that ‘Winston’ should have left these shores in the first place.
And anyway if you want the record of history changing just get the Americans to make a movie about it !!!.
RE: Two C54s on the way to North Weald!!
Intersting stuff, I assume the ATC schemed one is the one that Roger S mentioned a couple of weeks ago on this forum, if not there will be three in the uk.A trip to NW might be on the cards.
The film, I think, is the last part of the Speilberg/Hanks trilogy,Saving PR, BoB then Berlin airlift (although I had read that originally pt3 was to be Arnhem)thereagain I might of course be regurgitating someone elses rubbish.
RE: Connie on the way to Duxford!!!
Damien,
Excellent newsworthy pictures well done, she looks beautiful, however I’m slightly confused as to where you were when taking pictures 2 & 3 in the sequence. Its seems as if you were ‘live’ side, but the backgound looks wrong for that angle, are they by any chance flipped, I assume that they are digital photos given the time that You produced them in.
Not a critisism, just intrigued.

RE: RNAS Yeovilton
Coanda,
Were you out on the ramp to take those, because I struggled to get shots of the Corsiar and Vamp in isolation of each other from either side. Also the light was difficult, very hazy and down the lens most of the day.
I’m interested in your web site as I am preparing to do a similar thing with all of my material.
Perhaps we could talk off forum .

RE: RNAS Yeovilton
Ant- Many thanks,
Someone else has just told me that its a Flybaby but with no other info, so I’ll check out the site you attached.
We don’t seem to see much of this team at displays, shame,I wonder why that is ?. They also have the Sopwith Triplane if memory serves.
RE: Did the earth move for you??
And I though it was my wife turning over !!
RE: RNAS Yeovilton
I have since discovered that the little mono-plane masquerading as a WW1 German fighter with a dummy in the rear seat is a homebuild called an ‘easy… something or other’that can be quickly converted to a bi-plane if need be.I’ve not come across this before, does anyone know any more ?
RE: RNAS Yeovilton
Hi Stringbag,
Thanks for the notes, I must admit I did not fully hear Shaun Maffit announcing all of the operators as I had partly shut off from the PA because of the bloody awful music playing some of the time. But I was right in saying Source with the Vamp, wasn’t I ?.
Yes it was good to see the PR.11 Hunter, although I have to say Rod Dean would probably have given the display a bit more and would certainly have found the ‘Blue note’.
The Wasps, how long have they been displaying ? because I thought they made a very interesting and pleasant change.
Regarding Charlie Brown in the Spit, I have to stick by my original analysis, I thought it was flown perfectly, choreographed (to fit the superb music in this case),he made the Spit look graceful yet majestic. I doesn’t all have to be in the style of an aerobatic champ, these old girls need a lot of TLC and this was done to perfection.A late english summer day, blue sky, broken cloud, Edward Elgar’s patriotic music playing and a Mk VIB Merlin engined Spitfire gently rolling around the sky, sorry but it does it for me.
RE: Duxford 2002 Airshow
Sadly, I’m going to miss yet another Duxford show, as i missed Old Warden last weekend. The line up looks pretty good to me, nice to see the F86 on the list, not a major disaster with the Lanc missing as she does get around quite a bit and after all the BBMF Dak is always overshadowed, so good to see her i the limelight for change.
I hope its a great show blessed with good weather, and i have to say as a parent of two young children its good to see the wider family being thought of, especially as Duxford caters for the enthusiast in Legends.
I will DEFINITELY be going to Yeovilton !!.

RE: Tank U!
Thanks Keithmac (or is just Keith), I am (or was until my scanner went pearshaped) working through my large slide library and cataloging all the better material with a view to lauching a web site containing galeries by type. This is taking some time as you can imagine as i have some 10,000 ish slides and am probably only 20% of my way through them.I am yet to sort out a web provider and page design. I am aiming to do the design myself, albeit with little experience.
The aim of this is to promote my aviation photography and hopefully make some sales as well to help perpetuate the habit.
I have had to realign the timescale for this, i had ambitiously set this summer to launch but realistically it will be more like early next spring.
However the first task is to get some technical support for my scanner, its a software recognision problem rather than hardware.
RE: My Favourite Aircraft
Another couple of chippy pics.
The first is a recent ‘supermunk’ taken at this years RIAT (with glider out of shot) and the second one of the prettiest chippies i have seen ,taken at Wroughton some years ago.

Chunters off moaning about not taking the oportunities when they were around and going to desparately scour the slide archives for something as good……………baa.
RE: R6D-1 or if you prefer VC-118B
