RE: Not the owners
True,
But what you have to remember is that we , as aviation buffs, only make up a relatively small percentage of airshow crowds. The general public, which is who the organisers are trying to attract, really only want to see and probably only recognise the Spitfire, Red Arrows, Tornado etc. If none of those are on the menu then Joe public and his family are unlikely to be attracted.
We have to be thankfull for places like Duxford and Old Warden for giving us a lot of want we want as enthusiasts.
That was always a good thing about the ‘Great warbirds’ shows that used to happen at Malling and Wroughton, shame they cant be resurected.

RE: *Restorations Update* Whats going on lads?
Was there not a Typhoon or Tempest on the late Doug Arnolds inventory ? or am i dreaming.
RE: Whattya doing out there!?
Well amongst other things, i am trying to get all of my photo archives in order , scanned , catalogued and burnt to CD. With about 10,000 slides alone this is quite a daunting task, however i am determined to crack it, after all i only have a full time marketing job, a wife and two children to serve!!!.
On top of this i am aiming to launch a web site containing some of the aforementioned pictures, the aim being to convince someone that i would be better placed being an aviation photographer.
In my spare time i will try and get to some of the museums that i have not seen for some years.
Oh and i’m going to try and extend my house this year as well !!

RE: my new web site. Please visit
Nice site, love the Stearman(s), is the plural Stearmen ?.
I have some nice pics from the Shuttleworth meeting last year, i think there were 8 or 9 examples there including most of those on your site.
I am going to develop and hopefully launcj my own site soon, therefore will be glad of any tips such as developer sofware, hosts , costs, sever space etc.

RE: What do we want in 2002
Thanks David,
I agree, lets stick to realistic and sypathetic displays.
Do away with the Balbo’s and the tenuous scenarios.
Show aircraft as they were intended not circus items.
I’m not against a number of aircraft of the same type, or indeed contempary aircraft being flown together, but massed formations of anything thats available to fly on the day being put together does nothing for me.
I would sooner see 2 or 3 minutes longer on individual displays showing aircraft performing sensibly in all of their glory than 25-30 dots passing over.
I just have this horrible feeling that one day something will go wrong in one of those balbo’s and it will toll the end for historic flying.
RE: What do we want in 2002
Ant,
I could not agree more, i was not trying to trivialise the importance of historic flying ,suggest that safety should be compromised in any way or erase last years tragic accidents from memory.I know that we all want to see history well represented and know that we all agree that it should only be done within the confines of the sensible safety restrictions. But I also think that we are all sensible enough to realise that there is an element of danger attached to it.
God forbid that the horrors of last years accidents be repeated, but the risk will always exist.
You can compare the statistics with motor racing or any other ‘non-essential’ activity and make them what you want, but this will not persuade those who see airshows as an ‘unecessary waste of time’ to change their view.
Lets face it, the next time that there is an airshow accident, and lets not kid ourselves into believing that there won’t ever be another,we all know that the press will dig up an array of previous incidents, and we know that they will use terminology like ‘WWII crock’ or ‘Old banger’ and ‘Put in the air after 60 years by enthusiast’ or ‘weekend pilot’ etc.
I am afraid that there is nothing we can do about this, we have to hope and pray that all goes well.
People complain about bodies such as the CAA, i just wonder where we would be had they not existed.
Right, soapbox away for tonight !!

RE: Pic Of The Day-20/12/2001
Nice picture Kabir, i have several similar shots and its always a great leveller when you see and hear the trio in formation like this.No matter how many times you see this you have to stop and take in the significance of it and what they represent historically.

RE: Picture of the day 19/12/01
Sorry guys, i’ll try and reduce the picture size from now on.
Regarding equipment I use Nikon bodies and lenses, with the exception of a Sigma 70-300mm,ranging from 28mm up to 400mm.I am hoping to buy the Nikkor 80-400VR lens this spring and maybe (if my wife allows !)a F100 body as well. I always use Fuji Provia 100 slide film, occasionally Velvia 50 for static stuff.
I am aiming to launch a web site in 2002 with loads of picture gallerys. This will be purely an aviation photography site rather than a forum , the aim being to promote my work and generate sales of pictures.I do not do this for a living (if only!), but have been doing it for a long time. This will compliment the slide lectures that i give on aviation photography.
I am very grateful for all of the comments about my pictures and glad that i am able to share them with a wider audience.I am also willing to help anyone with photographic questions if required.

RE: Former WOGB airframes
There is (or was) a very poor looking B25 outside with nose art something like the ‘grim reaper'( i have a picture somewhere). The other B25, Aces High ‘Dolly’ is long gone.
RE: Picture of the day 17/12/01
Sorry, should have also said that the reg has always been Bermuda(i think)
RE: Picture of the day 17/12/01
Well spotted that man !! i must have flipped the image after i scanned it.
This was a scheme sponsored by Peter Styvesant for some promo trip, cant remember which year, somewhere about 1991/92.

RE: Catalina
Sadsack – On a technicality, a Catalina is an Amphibious aircraft not a flying boat.
Anyhow here is ‘Killer cat’ in happier times at the end of a late summer display.
