The Propswing article, written by THT also speculates about the possible addition in the future of Jungmeister, Bestmann and FW Stieglitz to give a ‘German flight’.
Thats great in my book, lets get the DX Storch up there on loan to join them.
However an authentic WWI german aircraft would be better, Fokker Eindekker from Booker maybe ????????.
As David says, whatever OW are up to its a whole lot better that it could have been if you remember the finances of a few years back.
I think Tony HT and the team have done a fantastic job at OW in recent years and we should all be gratefull for that, long may it continue.
Phil
I am surprised and saddened by your views , after all this is an aviation forum.
I fact I was so mad 5 minutes ago I was going to type that you were a bunch of misguided ******s, but of course that would not be appropriate language to use here and clearly not true.
Not true Scotty GR4.
The Vulcan has a DA owner supporting it, + every other manufacturer involved + CAA approval, the only thing missing at the moment is the money.
A campaign asking every airshow attendee in the UK over the last two years to donate £1 each would have raised enough and more…………….. still could do !.
SHALL WE GO FOR IT ????????????
I’m not sure that Ian Dewar and his team read this forum so any good ideas or contacts would be better directed to YAM.
Just been told that a 100tonne(lift) crane costs us £1500 per day min +labour.
I would imagine that this is the size of crane need for the Beverley parts because of the reach and spread required.
Bruce’s labour costs are perhaps a little conservative in a professional environment, for instance we charge £80 – £100 p/hr for service engineers, however hopefully a lot of this work could be done by volunteers.
The key point at tis time is to write letters, e-mail, etc and let the experts sort out the logistics.
David,
I’m only going on what Ian Dewar told me and that was £135- 160k for the move + £35k for preparation of site at YAM, maybe it will run out cheaper, lets hope so.
I was intersted in your estimations, I would like to know where you can hire a mobile crane for £700 a day and specialist trucjks at £500 a day, that is very cheap. We hire mobile cranes here to shift specialist magnets, I’ll find out what the last price paid was.
David that cost does include the strip, preparation, transport, site preparation at Elvington, rebuild and move to site (the rebuild will take place next door on a concrete hardstanding, she would then be towed into place)
Addresses etc that I have are :-
Mr I Dewar, Operations Manager, Yorkshire Air Musem, Halifax Way, Elvington, York, YO41 4AU
Ian-Dewar@lineone.net
Mr Andrew Morton (not the !) Hull Daily Mail 01482 372111
Sorry no e-mail for this chap yet
You can always pledge your support on the Beverley Association’s web site as well.http://www.beverley-association.org.uk
Beverley update
I have been busy trying to find out as much as I can as to what the current situation is, and in the main its quite positive. Yesterday I spoke with Ian Dewar (YAM) who is central to the whole rescue plan and he gave me the following update:-
Its current home(Museum of army transport) has fallen into compulsary liquidation
The receivers see the Beverley as its only major asset.
Ownership of the Aircraft is subject to debate, there are three claimants, however a Mr Francis Daley appears to be the most likely of these.
If it is proved to be Mr Daley he wishes to move the aircraft and display it on the Humber estuary, totally the wrong environment, too much sea air, aircraft would only last a couple of years.
YAM (based at Elvington N Yorks) is only 20 miles from the aircrafts current location and is committed to saving her, however this does not necessarily mean moving her imediately.
The major Aviation museums of the UK have been contacted, ie RAF Hendon, RAF Cosford and Duxford and none are interested in taking this aircraft on, despite being the last example and despite being a significant part of British aviation history.
On the up side YAM have received significant support in the form of letters from Richard Branson, Senior RAF and MOD personel and most significantly HRH the Prince of Wales.
After a recent structural survey by experts it is know that the aircraft will stand one more dissasembly move and reassembly, so any move has to be the right one.
If YAM become the owners of the aircraft Mr Dewar has stated that he will only allow her to be sited at an established museum that has the right level of engineering support, YAM are able to offer that as they have several ex Beverley service personnel at the museum.
They are currently negotiating with the receivers to keep the aircraft in its current location through this winter to avoid any dissasembly in adverse weather, this looks as if it will be safe until March 04.
The move, if it happens, will be expensive and has been costed at about £200,000 to get it to Elvington and sited, any further afield will be pro-rata of course.
What YAM need is as many letters of support, press slots, e-mails as they can get (this is where we help)
The above text is an extract from the mail I have sent to our local press.
What we all need to do is write letters /E-mails to Ian Dewar and YAM showing our support, all will help to raise the profile.
Apparently the Yorshire press has been excellent and will continue to highlight the situation.
So please get writing/typing , Ian Dewar will be really pleased to receive any suppport, the more letters the better.
Please help.
Some good ideas here guys, keep them coming.
I am still waiting for the local press to get the article together, I’ll drop him another e-mail later and call Monday.
Thanks guys, just got back from N Yorks unfortunately did not get time to get to Beverley. Did however find a book in the hotel that we were in called ‘Yorkshire from the air’ or some such title and one of the slides was a arial shot of Beverley town with XB259 sat right in the middle !.
I came back expecting some e-mail from the local press in prep for the story they are going to run in the Abingdon/Oxford papers, but nothing , so I will chase tomorrow.
Does anyone know anything about YAM and the receivers, I read in the latest Flypast that the despute over airframe ownership is not resolved.
I drove, or rather was being driven or I would have investigated closer, through Doncaster today and saw what appeared to be a floral display in the shape of what I thought to be a DC3 on a roundabout ,if so it all makes sense now.
Snapper,
Until now I had taken you as a reasonable, if slightly off the wall, sort of bloke. I know that you live on land that was reclaimed from the north sea so I can understand a little insecurity but to publicly attack, nay slate, the finest game known to man is nothing short of blasphemy.
You sir are a complete bollockhead!.
So there, its off my chest and I’m OK with it.
I’ll come teach you the rules if need be.
Phil
