It isn’t going to happen – not when subsidized airliners are built cheaper elsewhere. Building them is one thing. Designing, testing and certificating them is quite another. Brough has no history in this market at all. We used to build airliners in the UK not a million miles from where I’m sitting. It was stopped because BAE wasn’t interested in building airliners anymore.
When Woodford/Hatfield etc. were closed nobody cared and the skilled workforce was allowed to dissipate.

Good luck with their venture but where was the support for a similar venture when RJ production was closed at Woodford? Nowhere. Because no-one was interested.

Not sure about a suitable runway though. 3500ft long is it?

Apparently a single day off in 60 years is very bad for the economy according this comedian.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17530003

Is the UK economy so fragile that a single celebratory day off causes the economy to contract?

    Excuses, excuses.

So workers can work bank holidays to increase productivity? I guess bosses would like that. They would also like the increased profits and bonuses. Would the workers pay increase for working extra days? I doubt it somehow.

Most of us work to live not live to work.

    Yogi Bear (2010)

Life action/CGI remake of the classic cartoon. Jellystone looks great (apparently it’s New Zealand), the voices, Dan Aykroyd as Yogi and Justin Timberlake as Booboo are good as well (plenty of pic-a-nic basket references) but sadly the sum of the parts isn’t that great. Not bad but not great either. My eight-year-old enjoyed it though.

    Killing Bono (2011)

The true (ish) story of two brothers who went to school with Bono and the rest of U2 try to be rock stars themselves. A funny, witty, heartwarming story. Highly recommended.

The Pirates! An Adventure with Scientists! (2012)

The latest from Aardman Animations. A pirate captain tries to win the Pirate of the Year award with help from his hapless crew. Voiced by Hugh Grant, Davis Tennant, Brendan Gleeson and many others, this is a highly enjoyable movie. Many of the jokes and references will be missed first time round so second viewing is guaranteed.

    Guys…oh guys…

Hot from the hallowed pages of the Heil

    truckers support the tanker drivers

The Daily Mail – pandering to the climate of fear. Unite are not interested in the disputes of non-union truck drivers.

I think one of the problems is the media. The continual analysis and picking over of everything and anything a politician says make them frightened to say anything in case it is misinterpreted . They are so concerned about how it might look rather than speak the truth that we end with these mealy-mouthed sound-bite driven politicians. The fact that the current incumbent of No.10 is a PR person by trade speaks volumes about the sort people we now have in politics. Indeed none of the leaders have had what you might call “proper” jobs.

But David Cameron said “If there is an opportunity to top up your tank if a strike is potentially on the way, then it is a sensible thing if you are able to do that.” If that isn’t encouraging people to buy fuel when it isn’t necessary I don’t know what is.

    This makes interesting reading.

10 minutes isn’t really enough to give it justice to be fair.

I thought it was a wonderful film. An old-fashioned good/evil yarn with fantastic effects.
