The latest from Sky movies
Paul
The latest from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. An western USA alien chase sort of affair. Very funny in places and far superior to both Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Paul himself has some great lines. There is still a tendency to resort to knob gags as someone once called them but none the worse for that.
The Green Hornet
Rich play-boy becomes Super-hero after his father dies. Just about OK to start with but went on about half an hour too long. The main character becomes very irritating in a sort of Hong-Kong Phooey way.
The King’s Speech
I was prepared to be disappointed due to over-hype but as it happens it was a very enjoyable film. Great stuff from Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush.
Yes I know where you’re coming from – these do it for me.

A properly executed barrel roll is a positive g manoeuvre not a 1g manoeuvre. The g will vary between 0.5g to 2-3g but always positive. Large aircraft can roll but it will depend on the roll rate that can be achieved before too much height is lost. A loop is a different matter and can involve large positive g forces during the recovery. Many large aircraft will not generate enough pitch rate to perform a loop before too much airspeed is lost.

Nothing very exciting there at all as far as I’m concerned. 🙁
I was rather hoping for an expansion of the Spitfire range in 1/48.
The re-issue of the HP 0/400 is welcome though.
A few films that have been on over Christmas
A Knight’s Tale
Heath Ledger and Paul Bettany in a story about Medieval knights and jousting. Historically inaccurate with all the wrong references and music. Great fun and what the movies should be about.
The Bourne Ultimatum
The third in the Bourne sequence. Top quality action thriller.
Tamara Drewe
Gentle British comedy. Not riotously funny but a reasonably pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
Ratatouille
Superb animated comedy from Pixar about a rat that can cook. Clever and inventive stuff.

Phew! Now I know you’re joking. It wouldn’t be right to be bitter and twisted over talented art work now would it.
I realize that some think that the only art is within a gilt frame but then there are those that are rather more open-minded. 🙂

Like all art, this has its place. Some of it clearly shows huge talent at work. It doesn’t have to criminal either, some give permission – and it has to be better than dull grey concrete everywhere.
Al – I thought for a moment you were serious……

Would you and the missus like it when you settle down to Emmerdale to find someone has let themselves into your kitchen and are taking down the toaster and kettles serial numbers……………….. times that by about 60 a day which is what we would get during PFA at Cranfield and you would understand the frustration along with the H&S and Insurance implications….
Not the same thing at all.
It would be more like people coming to my place of work and writing down the serial numbers of the aeroplanes. Oh wait….that’s what they used to do.
I take numbers, photos and have worked in the industry for 25 years. I knew what it was like on the other side of the fence and would always be helpful to those looking for information.
Like all hobbies there are those that give it a bad name – they are rare though – a bit like those that change numbers on aeroplanes for a laugh…

I’m only saying what daveg4otu is saying as well. Is that OK?
Just bear in mind that as well as spotters you’ll probably confuse aviation historians as well. They’ll come on here in years to come to wonder about the identity of an airframe and discover somebody changed the reg for laugh. Oh how we laughed…..
The long winter nights must simply fly by……
