Hi Camaro. Yes, everything is going well. This week there was a meeting between all participants including a FAP General. What i don´t know is which type of fighter FAP will send here.

Yes, I agree. Is a designation for Attack fighter navy 1 – the first Brazilian Navy jet fighter in history. Just to let you know, in 1997 the former president lift a ban that did no permit the Navy to fly fixed wing aircrafts. Until that time only AF was allowed to operate fixed wing aircraft (Brazilian AF operates for years the S-2 Tracker, P-16 designation, aboard A-11 Minas Gerais).

Srbin, your point of view makes total sense, but, we didn´t fly too much, 100-150 hours per pilot/year, the skyhawks brought from Kuwait are very low in terms of flight hours and if the upgrade for them get the approval….20-25 years of operations easily.

ja Worsley, in fact A-1M is the new name for the upgraded AMX fleet. The contract for the upgrade was signed and the upgrades will soon take place.
The Navy needs funds to upgrade the fleet of AF-1s but as I told before, they want the same upgrade applied to AF fighters.
Your last paragraph is more useful for April 1st fools day, i´m kidding. 🙂

No, not in near future. Thay have used this exercise to qualify new pilots on the Skyhawk and also the Brazilian Navy have plans to upgrade the fleet in the same level of the F-5s and AMXs.

Ja Worsley, the AF pilots and commanders, as well as the Minister of Defense prefers the Flanker, the politicians in general tends for the Gripen and Mirage. The congress voted for the Mirage (of course because of Embraer).

I don´t think the government will get both. It will be a good idea, but, the F-5 upgrade are going well. The other country that uses the F-5E/F is Chile and it is already upgraded, but, in small numbers.

The other country that uses F-5 is Venezuela, but the A and B model got from Canada and Netherlands.

The SH is too expensive for us.

No the Argentine navy will not be involved. The exercise is taking place 380 kms from teh coast of Rio de Janeiro.
As far as I know there were fly-by over the A12 by USN Hornets and Super Hornets and Brazilian Navy Skyhawks (six AF-1s involved in the exercise) did some touch and goes on the deck of the Ronald Reagan.
The carrier will arrive today in Rio and the crew will spend two days off travelling throughout the city and then left for Montevideo in Uruguay.

First, they want to participate with the F-16 which is not the front runner. They said that if the Gripen wins, they will not impose any block on engines or components.
The SU-35 has a lot of supporters and probably will win. There were discussions on how to integrate Russians weapons on upgraded F-5s and AMXs, but, is only pure speculation.
Brazilian companies are developing modern weapons to be integrated on the F-5 and AMX fleet, but, funds needs to be placed by the government to buy.

Seahawk, you are correct, what Brazil wants is to rebuild the space program, sice the explosion of the Alcantara space launch base last year. And this is what the Russians are offering, a complete transfer of tech to our space program.
