M12,
Just a stones throw away from the Chinook is also the wreckage of Puma AE501 also claimed by either XZ963 or XZ988 during the same contact! Or it was when I was last there in 2002!

Hi, does anyone have any info on this grip, ive seen variants of this style but not the exact one. It has the codes ; 27j/251 and part no AC 10522
Hi Jamie123,
Certainly not Spitfire! This grip (AC10522) was a standard fitting to jet night fighter aircraft, for example: DH Venom, Vampire and AW Meteor. The ’27J’ (AP 1086 stores ref. No. for ‘Aircraft Control’) number may certainly narrow down its intended use – if you have access to the Vol 3’s of those aircraft! Forumite’s Bruce or Air Ministry may perhaps shed more light???

D/N 53c4719
G- 56679It also has 506604 under a button lug on the side near the top hat.
Thank you for the comments Ian. The switches in the Space Model some are dummies Ian and it is missing one switch.
I was suprised it was cast, one would have thought a mock up would be resin etc, one can only assume it was nigh on put to bed design wise. There was a service one on eBay a while back, was tempted.Another view
Hi Tony,
A bit more gen from Guardian. I e-mailed them to get some info on a grip I have and the only information they could give was regarding the number that is under the top (thumb) switch. This gives the exact date of manufacture, the number I sent was ‘6604019’ which equates to 1966 (66) 9th Feb (040 day of year) and 19 the quality inspector’s number. This would at least put the number of your grip as being manufactured in 1950. Not sure really how to interpret your numbers as you have one digit less! However, I suspect its 66th day and inspector 04.

Enclosed is a picture of the yoke ZD230 ex BOAC G-ASGA which I believe was the prototype Super VC-10.
FB, Much, much better than a Lancaster yoke! Well in my opinion anyway, to say I’m envious is an understatement! Lovely!!!
Thanks for sharing.
GYD
Strangely that’s the third one in a month or so. One on ebay, one in an auction pointed out on here and now Spit Spares. Common as!
Could they possibly be just the same yoke just doing the rounds?? However, considering the number of Lanc’s built there must still be a few more tucked away in peoples lofts etc?
FB, are you going to expand a little more gen on your newly acquired 10 yoke then???
GYD
Seriously, any idea what this would be fitted to?????
Usually, to an artificial horizon instrument however, anything outside of the aviation field is left to the individual!!

Martyn, the comments in post #235 are meant to be light hearted, hence the 😀 icons. And when the said item actually sold i was not the next highest bidder, as someone else was bidding too. No problemo 😉
Rob
Rob,
Of course, I fully understand your comments in #235 were made in the light hearted and jovial manner that was originally intended. Apologies if one sent the wrong message in my post! I just wanted to point out that it is sometimes frustrating to be unwittingly bidding against a fellow ‘chum/enthusiast’ which could, in certain circumstances perhaps end up in some serious teddy throwing as a result of such ‘e-bay combat’!
I also fully appreciate the comments and problems that FB has outlined and faced during his time with e-bay and echo his last statement. However, what I was originally going to voice in my previous post but, decided to keep it short, was regarding ‘friendly bidding’ i.e. when your ‘chum’ bids up to just below the vendors (preferred sale price somewhat higher than the 99p start price!) in order to goad others into fighting for the sale. This, I suspect James, is more likely to be the reason why ebay decided to apply the now anonymous bidder?
Hope we’re still all friends?

I can’t be the only one that sees the irony in highlighting items for sale to all interested parties here, and then end up bidding against each other!:D
James,
I too see the irony and the lively conversations that can unfold – aptly highlighted in post #235 but, don’t you think it was better and more gentlemanly, when you could at least see the identity of individuals who were bidding on e-bay?

There is at least one! The image I posted was taken from a German auction catalougue circa 2005. No idea who bought it though.
DC,
Do you have any idea for how much it went for then?

In support of Ian’s ‘lust’ for objects, I think I have to on this occasion at least, side with DC’s Hornet grip as possibly the, (in my opinion) most ‘holy grail’ of (British) grips? There must be one out there somewhere????
GYD
Do you mean Macchi MB 326?
havillandhornet,
I really meant MB 326, just left the last digit when I changed my original post from MB 339 for some inexplicable reason!! (that has an articulated column I believe).

As the title says:
WW2 RAF / RCAF Lancaster Bomber Steering Yoke / Wheel & Control Column!
E-bay ref: 221186315915
Hmmm…… Nice!

Hi Dave,
That’s a cracking bargain! Could/would it be MB329 perhaps?

I too think that the ‘curved’ Hunter style Dunlop grip is certainly more comfortable to hold and a definite step up in ergonomic terms from the awkward ‘upright’ style that was used for the Javelin/Vixen etc. To operate the Tornado function buttons your thumb needs to be at least two inches longer and have another joint too! Its still a cool grip though!

Told you it looked familiar! Doh!!
