Fascinating and well done! – Odd coincidence – The Officers Mess at Boscombe Down had its BoB Dining in Night tonight and I displayed the Spit 1, Merlin etc and a board with a control wheel from the Do17

Just to let you know….The museum will continue to be open daily up to 2nd November (except mondays, save for the half term when we will be). After then, we will be open weekends until March (date tbd) when we open daily again.
The museum number is 01722 323636 if you wish to check first

If the Vulcan one was jolly tatty, then likely I had it….sold it after the dreaded D!
I removed a complete stick from XH980 – now that took time….about 2 hours……not as long as cutting through the dog legs on the bottom of a Hunter stick in the cockpit with junior hack saws…..each having a mighty throw of 3/4 inch……that took me 7 hours!!!

That is a pity. They’d done so much to her. Wish I was there…best atmos and fun I have ever had at an aviation event

I think that you will need to look into what was actually asked for and organised.
The BBMF has a huge display schedule and really tries to do everything.
You also need to get your request in very early. We did a rededication for the 70th anniversary of Nicolson VC’s event at Boscombe Down (where A&AEE moved to in 1939). The request was made in November the previous year.

The aircraft all have very tight hours budgets and they try to do alot with every precious hour.

Sorry, but I think the OP is being a tad unfair. I have always been delighted with the BBMFs displays and flypasts. They have always given us far more than we asked and dreamt for. It cost us nothing.

Regarding MH’s place in history – well it is very important, for the reasons you mentioned and more. Unfortunately it has been built on, but the Tower museum is wonderful.

if it is rust (i.e. iron oxide…not aluminum oxide)…..put in a bath of Bilt-Hamber DeOx. After 24-48 hours, remove, wash, dry thoroughly (I sometimes even bake in oven!)….laquer top coat (Halfords do good one)
