Cheers Mark!
I have had a 30year+ love affair with Hurricanes….if I get time, and there is interest, I can post pix of the items fitted to a Hurri…This year I hope to start assembling my rear fuselage.
Whatever is in it will be much appreciated, but can we please have no more ultra close formation flying from the P51 pair etc… i can’t see how it displays the aircraft any better and it does nothing for my nerves.!
Ed and Jim are brilliant and were fantastic at the Gathering….I watched them do the Horsemen routine every day, it was great but scared me, so I understand your nerves! I chatted to them after a couple of displays…these guys are so nice and professional with infectious enthusiasm and a respect for the aircraft, veterans and those enthusiasts who do likewise. They fully know how lucky they are to do what they do. That said, I was so pleased to see them back on the ground smiling afterwards!
Pic 1 (left most) Top left (red metal part with ‘hooks’) is the knock out direct vision panel on the forward lower pane on the port side of the canopy. Left buckle is off the flying helmet/goggle, right buckle is one of the two flap retainers off the seat pack parachute. On picture 4, the shiny curvy C piece is off the lower fuel **** (which is joined to the upper by a rod from the upper ****)….I assume you know the perspex and bullets! I shall have a look at the rest later when I return from work…..incidentally, if you have any small parts for my collection of Hurri stuff that would be gratefully recieved. My Hurricane project and collection is shown in the website below
Regards
Tony
PS always happy to ID aircraft parts, particularly Hurri!
cheers Pondskater….the only UK aircraft I know to have had one is the Airship Delta….would not surprise me if the Curtiss America had one too…any sources of early cockpit phots?
cheers…it is pre, WW1 or just after Felixstowe flying boat is a poss!
You can just make it out in one of Postfade’s lovely shots! The WW2 stuff was only represented by Gary’s P51 rig, Dave’s Hornet, Mark’s Mossie rig, Stu’s Spit panel and my tatty Spit…..Jets are more popular!
Hope I have not missed out any?!
That looks like Ken Wards writing….I think it is Kiwi 3 which was lost up north and was quite a big dig (others involved were probably Alan Downing and Max Elliot)
not from me youre not!
as I have bored you before, I have a canopy:)
interesting subject…..if you captured someone who you knew 100% had put a bomb where it would kill 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000 innocent lives, would you torture the person to try and find out where the bomb was? If so, at which number of people would you torture the person?
It is a case of choice, if that person chooses to kill someone do they give up the right to not be tortured? The victim has no choice….

Wyvernfan, Hi,
There are several instances on the whole of that web-site that indicate that these guys were either extremely brave (knowing the possible problems), or extremely dedicated (knowing the possible problems). But they went and did the bizz.
In any case they do (in my opinion) rank alongside the guys who were being shot at!
Resmoroh
well said……
this year is the 70th anniversary of test flying at Boscombe Down…
I think Merlin would appreciate that!
I have tried white spirit…no chance!
this is so sad…..this man was a true hero who never tired of chatting to youngsters about those dark days…..many thanx Sir! Blue skies
A bit of a poo time we have had……! Merlin (a key member of my team!) has a huge growth on his head and had a biopsy….he is wearing a cone so will not appreciate any teasing!! Tried to fit the Spitfire panel tonight and it does not!!!! Built a trolley…..cut some original 40 year old perspex for the windscreen sides and cannot get the protective rubber off cos its gone pooey 😡
Oh well, really looking forward to it tho!
