That is scary damage, it looks like the pole ‘gave way’ (i.e. cannot see damage further down wing) thank goodness it did….better if it had been there anyway. The slats auto deploy/retract……they are particularly useful in tight turns, low speed etc….(come open and improve airflow over wing)….
Excellent website….i wish you luck with this fine endeavour

it was good…….but Churchill had to make a decision….if that fleet had fallen into German hands that would have been terrible for us and possibly a change in the outcome of the war. It was regrettable but hindsight is not something everyone is blessed with. The French head of the Navy later became Vichy PM….so could he really have been trusted?

the Telegraph obits are superb so any book based around them will also be so…..however, I find them depressing as all my heroes are flying high now and leaving the world a very sadder place.
I think (not that it matters) that it is brilliant that so much original Hawker material was acquired with the Iraqi Furies…..this is/would be a dream to a spit rebuilder….it basically makes the rebuilt Furies more ‘original’ than many other rebuilt aircraft types (where originality in this case means original vintage Hawker material!).
Given that not all of the original aircraft, it is great to see a Sea Fury (especially a twin sticker) resurrected and so ‘originally’ (refer the reader to my above posting).
I for one will be jolly happy to see her fly (and Monsieur Jacqhard’s too!).
I would be even happier to provide ballast in the back seat if required!!!!:)
cheers old chap! Once these are fitted the only large scale rivetting left will be the canopy rails!!!
behave Stuart…..dont wanna start that off again!!!
The DH110 came from a scrap yard dealer….so ex stores one would think…it has a repair stamp so likely flew on one of the protos is rare.
Pity you wont be at the Fest Ian
nice grip….i have one with a shrapnel hole through it (last scimitar sat on a range)….i love that family of grips….the guy they used to hand model must have been like the missing link…huge hands! hence, alot of Dunlop grips are awkward for most people! The basic shape of the Scimitar grip ended up (with modifications) on the following aircraft:-
Scimitar
SR53
DH110
Sea Vixen
Bucc S1
Javelin
plus others my brain cannot remember (too much rivetting today! so far 400 popped in! solids….another 38 to go!)
the only grip in the family to have a brake lever was the DH110…..i have the only known grip…not from Derry’s aircraft i must add…..boy do i go on?! sorry old age….wheres me rivet gun!
