Cheers Chris that is brilliant…..I have the day off tomorrow so hope to all but finish the firewall….woo hoo!!!
same as a spit…..I can photo it if no one else has a phot to hand
Steve and Chris, whilst you are having a looksy (looksee?!) could you please let me know what I rivet the top thin fuselage (half moon) former to…..?!
The drawings I have seem to suggest it is rivetted to the forward side of the first top half skin so the ‘lip’ goes forward covering the top of the ‘asbestos’ sheet and the forward top half skin…..photos I have of EP120 (Spits and Polished Metal) suggest a little different….cheers!
I am currently using about 5% original Spit fasteners from various aircraft and the rest are wartime stock…
Oh come on guys…..if you want to still fly 65 year old+ warbirds you need to keep them airworthy…this requires replacement of many parts…..it is a fact of life….the best of all worlds is a flyer (with all that entails) and a museum piece made from as much original WW2 stock as possible……
Take my fav Hurricane (apart from my own)….she has been effectively flying since she was built in 1944 (apart from servicing etc) she has had her wing skins all replaced, several new engines, consumables (fuel, oil, pumps, elects, tyres etc), several sets of instruments, all woodwork replaced, instrument panel and cowlings replaced, …..is she still original? you bet she is….the stuff removed has not been wasted at all.
cheers old chap

Cheers Steve, I was hoping you would see my plea!!
One other question please….the rear of the firewall has a horizontal top hat stiffener that goes between the datums….is it bolted/rivetted thru all the firewall/asbestos sandwich or just rivetted to the aft skin?
I spent today and yesterday assembling the firewall/frame 5….spars are bolted on now and the very expensive spacers are all in place…..
All I need now is to complete assembly, acquire a top engine mount lug (that goes into the datum longeron), the L brackets, skin it, sit all the bits and heyho!
I just need time….it is annoying having 99% of the stuff and not enuff time….busy planning/sorting fasteners for tomorrow nights amusement!!
good shots Nick…..will help me in my skinning process….do you mind me printing them off for my own use please? (restoration workshop)
EDIT: Please don’t ‘quote’ masses of images

E2A is unlit, E2B is lit….if you have a light bulb on the bottom it is an E2B…..if yours is a later Canberra (Mk wise) then it is an E2B…..I do replicas in black resin if you dont want to spend too much!!!
I have offered to remove them from mine to identify them…..simply countersunk, 4BA i’d reckon….but if you want more…I can find this out…as I have said I have some….but it may be better to source them locally…..brass screws
its very much like a car horn (monotone that is), I acquired the one for my Hurricane out of my Hunter F1 cockpit!!! Were not fitted to later Hunters…I may try popping 12v across it if I can or am brave!!! It can be seen in a cockpit shot on my website IIRC
Malcolm raises a good point……I am only happy with items I dug myself or come from a reputed and highly respected source….and they know who they are!
Ok….please pardon my ignorance!!
In simple terms…..this is the sight
and
these are the brackets
I need the screws that attach these brackets to the sight 😀
cheers….that was not what I thought….anyhoo….will still have some screws in Blighty!!
ground equipment…a gauge does not need to be a dial….it can be some kind of protractor based angular unit
