Obviously I do not know what actually happened in your case…..however, this is my personal general view on flying…
Although you might have been disappointed, please dont be too quick to criticise. Flying is a very personal thing. One person’s weather may be more suitable than others. All flying is like a chain being made it includes many links (aircraft serviceability, weather, pilot happiness, ability, confidence). Weather is very much linked to pilot comfort levels.
Last week my brother (a new pilot) made an excellent decision to turn round his Luscombe and land where he started because he was not happy to pick his way through scud. Other pilots probably would have pressed on, but was not comfortable.
It could have been less nice where the pilot was setting off from (than the other aircraft).
I concur that a Spit is a highlight!
please amend title to say it is an old crash!!! it saves me a few heart beats!
The Hurri in the CNAM in Ottawa has a very simple version which is alittle like the stop watch clip (only using the button like a watch) and painted red…if `I get time I’ll post a piccie.
I believe these were squadron local mods…..the Gutersloh/Germany based Hunters and Swifts had a local mod clip as a double safety for their aircraft (I have an example of each aircraft type.)
The Sea Hawk/Hunter also had a rubber cap that could be popped over the grip head with ‘guns loaded’ ‘cast’ into the cap…..I have one of those too….not a great item in the more modern age of FOD awareness and sensibilities.
Agreed, the BL370 restoration was very good (and done by two good friends of mine), wish they had completed it!! When it left them it was beautifully accurate even down to the flap tap used to control the dip angle of the landing lamps…
looks American to me…..very B24/B17ish
Cheers Steve (and others) for the excellent advice. It will not fly….unless the fus hits a particularly large pot hole on the motorway…..will send pm
cheers old chap…..sorry been away
prob number of type qualified pilots…..
i only found out about it from you Alan…..and went with the girlie……not a bad event but as you say poor promotion….bought a lovely bit of trench art….a WW1 Eindecker made of a French Lebel round! £2!
The place is not as friendly as it used to be….
due to a mkix 2 stage – 2 speed supercharger with intercooler merlin being longer than a early single stage single speed merlin in a mk1
lovely collection…we have one model of each mk in the BDAC model collections which runs into 1000s…..none made by me (I am pleased to say cos I am poo at such things!).
