interesting….lucky my parents are up the road a mile or so!
cannot think of many German aircraft off there, doubt the Shotley He111 bombs could make it that far!…
cheers all…..working with peoples hand me downs, i have found numerous shades, so i guess it is a case of finding one i like….ISTR that Mark G’s Mossie parts were a nice shade of green!
It could be that the picture was taken at Llanbedr judging by the Canberra tail in the background and it might not accurately reflect the current condition of the aircraft.
you are right…it aint in a hangar and we do not have any canberra tails at BD anymore!
Sorry Old Thread but….
I am just about to order a ton of BS381C -283 for the Spit cockpit detailing….is everyone reasonably happy with that standard?!
I have been buying paints from Fantastic Finishes on Ebay…..
Depends on the amount of rust & how big the part is. 1gal & a recirc pump will do an M2 (the gun, not the tank 😉 )
There’s another company that makes similar stuff under the name of Rusteco.
If there’s no UK distributor etc I may have to call my step bro & have him start importing it… if it’s financially viable.
I use stuff made by Bilt Hamber……

Forgot Off-UK pioneers too…sorry, such as Harry Spence and Neil Rose, not forgetting Jack Arnold….
Also forgot to say that the Peter T’s Hurri is a work of art, and will be great to see up and about!
The stepping stones to the Hurricane revival we now see are quite a few and obviously include HR with its partners (i.e Sir Tim Wallis) and its sub contractors…..but dont forget various owners of spar forming and tube forming machines, a Hurricane restoration conference held in the 1980s at Duxford (that include long time and prolific Hurri operators BBMF!) to discuss such things as rare techniques, materials, Cranfield, AC and its then owner (Brian A), Charles Church, Paul Mercer, the Medway group of the RAeS, wreck retrievers and not forgetting bill payers! Coupled with that was a willingness to share information. I think that if I had seperate out individuals from that list it would be Hurri restoration pioneers Paul Mercer & Geoff Rodwell who learnt many lessons for others to follow…..These are the unsung heroes that allow us to see such beautiful aircraft fly…
Just think, if it wasn’t for HR we’d be down to about 3 flyable ones by now!
best looking means nothing else matters (i.e. form, fit, function, purpose), just looks….and that is in the eye of the beholder!
The Hunter F1 looks the best out of the Hunters, sleekest etc….but the most pants….goes for any other aircraft, hence increasing mk number tends to make it better!
Rocketeer, I’ve only just looked at your website, some amazing and thorough work done there. Really good to see those early Hunter cockpits.
Are you set up within the camp itself or located nearby?
The RAFM museum is definately not going to have the Meteor if it is up for disposal, so other than Llanbedr I can’t think where people think is a good home for it, Boscombe being as suitable as anywhere.
I hope you manage to pull something out of the bag and somehow aquire it – good luck.BTW I’m amazed the Sea Fury is up for disposal, shouldn’t it be retained by the FAAHF or at least FAAM?
I dont think we will have much chance of getting it sadly. Most of stuff is displayed within the Boscombe Down museum….dont forget Cockpitfest if you want to see lots of hunter noses!
I wouldn’t want it to go there. The museum has no room and any complete aircraft are just left outside to the elements. Also visiting has to be by appointment and no photography is allowed. Wherever she goes, it MUST be kept inside! I would vote for Cosford to join their collection of Meteors.
More negativity!! I hate this….we are a small museum and yes, unfortunately some exhibits are outside, we would rather they were inside however, we need more inside space. They are not just left outside to the elements, we have maintenance activity on the external exhibits. Please do not denigrate the worthy work of our volunteers. Regarding visits and photography we have a good number of visits planned and we are working on the latter….so why dont you just give us a chance?!
Why dont you buy it then and donate it to a museum you consider worthy?!:)
suggest yu chaps come to cockpitfest!
Apparently not close to airworthiness, I may go and see her if I get time this week…..anyone interesting in forming a buying group to save her in UK? An obvious place for her would be at Boscombe anyway!!
We have one, sort of, at the museum, will try to get details….not been in it for some time….
good landing given how a mustang could teeter on that big scoop….hope all that foam does not do too much more damage, pleased they are all ok
agree…..was for target towing
